Question Infinity Kappas/Basslink/Console

Long-time reader, first-time poster...

98SCREAMER, you may have some insight on this. I'm looking for a heads-up in installing Infinity Kappa 60.5cs series speakers in the front doors. I've done some stereo/speaker installs (back in the day) but this is the first with my 98 F150. Any adapters/brackets/customizing needed? I was going to get the Perfects but at 2 3/4 depth I thought they might be too deep.

I also just put in an Alpine 6disc changer over Memorial Day (broke it in with Abbey Road). It's in the console right now, but I'm thinking of moving it elsewhere. I recall another post (can't recall from whom) about mounting the changer at 90 degrees in the console, but I couldn't tell how it was done given the brackets didn't seem to allow for anything but straight vertical or horizontal. I'm also getting an Infinity Basslink, which I think would fit in the console no problem given the dims. Anybody else mount a sub/amp (or Basslink) in the console?

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

I just put the Kappa 572.5's in all four doors. I believe you would have to do a little cutting to stick these in the front doors, the holes in the front doors don't seem to be 6 inches across. You won't have a depth problem.

Thumbs up

I made some adapters out of 3/4 plywood(maybe it's 5/8"?) I made it to where the speakers were offset to one side because of how they end up once you install them. I found that I almost broke the drivers side center mounted coax tweeter off of my old speakers! I had to offset them so the speakers would not be firing into the side of the dash. The funny thing is with them being set off to one side, they ended up in the center of the door panel speaker grill. How that happened I have no idea, lol! Apparently they are not matched up well from the factory?? Or I am just lucky I guess. I have had no clearance problems in front of the speaker, or in the back. They do sell premade adapters, but I opted to make my own at the time. Maybe the thickness helped with the rear clearance, too. Make sure you paint them black unless you want them to show. Good luck,,,,,98

In-Cab MP3 Computer (was Kappas, etc.)

Thanks for the replies folks. That'll be a good help.

BTW, changing the subject a little, anyone have experience hooking up a laptop to their system? I'm looking to homegrown a music keg as I have a spare laptop lying around. I've seen some of the prefab kegs (PhatBox, Kenwood, I think) but I'd like to go it myself. Anybody who's done this I'd appreciate some tips.

Specifically, in hooking up the laptop to the head unit (or amp?) via an RF unit.

Thanks again.
