super crew put in 6 1/2 component work great

I replaced my Stock 02-HD speakers with 2 sets of 6 1/2 Component speakers.

The stock speakers are really lousy.

I purchased Polk EX3560 2 sets from Circuit city. $218 a set on sale. they are $229 at Crutchfield.com
Each kit included two 6 1/2 speakers, two 1" tweeters and two 2-way crossovers.

I bought Polk speakers because the performance for the price is really high.

I can't believe how good these speakers are performing. The base, high and mid range are excellent. The radio can blast loud and is really clear.

All this is with the stock radio.

I traced the stock speakers on to a piece of 1/4 board then cut out the shape ( first I cut squares 7" wide ) (make your pattern a little big - it won't hurt any thing)-
I then used a router (laying it upside down facing up) to cut out the pattern. Then I placed the large hole template down and made the big hole. (off to the long side)
The big hole I used the router again and cut it out using the template that came with the speaker.
be sure to hold it up to the door to see how everything fits.

I used a hole saw to drill a hole for the tweeter.
I mounted the tweeter really close to the woofer so it will fit in the 5x7 hole.
I then painted it black and mounted it in the stock speaker location and put on the grills.
Then I mounted the 2 way crossover to the door.

I repeated these steps 3 more times times.
The back doors have a mounting box which I took out and then installed the speakers - it was even easier than the front because I did it on a work bench.

The difference between stock 5x7 and 6 1/2's is incredible.
I recommend these - I saw the Idea of mounting 6 1/2's in a screw in Trucking Magazine from last year!

I am satisfied with my system now but I already purchased an amp and woofer which I have not installed yet. I will get on this during the holiday weekend. I will let you know how it turns out.
