Opinions on Polk DX7's.
Ok... Polk sounds good. I am looking for better sound range, not just base. I listen to everything from Stern in the morning to techno and house music on the weekends.
What about the Sony Xplod component system? Id like to have more sound near my head. I was looking at crutchfield.com and was thinking of going with an all sony setup... component in the front, 2 ways in the rear, amp, sub, sony head unit...
Any thoughts about that?
Thanks in advance.

Just an opinion here but I'd go with Polks over the Sonys (for speakers of course). I've listened to them back to back and there's no comparison. Polk does speakers. Sony does speakers, TVs, computers, clock radios.....get the point?? Not saying that Sony is junk, just that Polks are better..again IMHO. Oh yeah, Polk, Diamond, BA, all make great component systems too. They'll cost more than the Sonys but you get what you pay for.
Same goes for the rest of your system. Nothing wrong with mix and match. Also, shop around before you buy everything from Crutchfield. They have a great catalog and they include most of the install paraphanalia, but I found most things to be cheaper elsewhere (locally as well as on the net). I don't mean to sound like a know it all but I've been looking into this stuff pretty heavily the last few months. Shop around, you'll be surprised at what you can find on special at your local audio shops. Example: I bought my DX7's at Circuit City (local not net) and they were $175 for two pairs (buy one set get second at half price special). DX7's in the Crutchfield catalog was over $100 per pair. Happy shopping!!!

What you are saying makes a lot of since. I have friends with polk speakers and they sound great. The mix and match was bothering me.
Crutchfield has a great website and catalog, also helpful people if you call in, but I am the king of finding a good deal on the net, I probably start with ebay where they sell new for $100 per pair. (still not as cheep at Circut City - I'll check there too).
Thanks again for the advise.

Hello All,
I am new to this site and thought I'd check out the talk about speakers. I was quite suprised to find the Polk's so popular. I bought them yesterday on ebay along with the dynamat to help them 'shine' after shopping around a bit on the big I. I should have mine by wednesday, i'm going to run them with the factory stereo for a while at least. Before i bought the F-150 i had a Chrysler Concord with the Infinity sound system and changing vechiles was a shock to my ears, i could not beleive in this day and age that a factory system could sound so bad. I want to say thanks to all of you for helping me see i made the right speaker choice.
peace..

1/2 price at Crutchfeld also
Just an FYI....I was looking into speakers for my '01 Scab (I still have the Pioneer HU from my last car) and saw the "buy one pair of Polk, get a second pair 1/2 price" sale on the Crutchfiled web site also.
I was sort of torn between the Polks and JBLs so I called to speak to someone. The guy said if you have a subwoofer, go with the Polks but if you're just using the speakers alone, go with the JBLs. I think I'll try to get to Circuit City to listen to them both before I buy. Either way, they'll be a heckuva lot better than the stock speakers!

Good idea to check out CircuitCity. I'm pretty sure they still have the buy one get second for half off sale. If their price is the same as Crutchfield, you save on shipping (the boxes are pretty heavy). Keep in mind that Crutchfield supposedly gives you the adapters (if they give the right ones). They're about $10 per pair at CircuitCity.

The Alpine 4 Channel amps are the way to go on the POlks - they don't push as much power, but they are much much more clear, and distinctive....the MTX amps are good, and usually a good price.........you guys looking for subs - look at the Polk DX 12s and 10s........very small space, and as much bass as you could want.
I swapped my front speakers for a Polk component setup - I used the DX 5.5, and the crossover, and put an Infinity two way 3.4 (with a stacked 1") all in the door - WITHOUT cutting anything....These are run by an MTX 2100 (175 total).....My Rears and the Polk DX7s run by another MTX 2100, and lastly, my Polk DX 12 run by a Planet Audio PA2002 (I think)

i don't think that circuit city is carrying the polk dx7's anymore, i worked there for about a year and a half, then i went back for the christmas break, and they didn't have them anymore. should be all the stores. so just check them out. i don't think they have them cause i tried to get my room mate a pair.
Hello Everyone,
I just got the Polk DX7's in from Crutchfield, as was stated earlier by someone here they came with the Ford adapters which is nice. I was planning on putting them in this weekend, but mother nature stepped in and I'm shoveling snow instead.
Just as an FYI Crutchfield is 'blowing out' the DX7's for $99 a pair AKA they are being discontinued.
