you have to go to where it says change album then click on interior to see them. That looks great. What is to front of the box made out of?

Skidmarkracing, looks very professional. Also looks like a lot of work . Let me see if I understand what you did. Basically you laid fiberglass on the entire back of the cab. This becomes the back "wall" of the box and it is air tight due to the fiberglass you placed. The speakers are mounted to the new panel you see from the inside of the cab (what you see in your pics). This is the front "wall" of the box. The front wall is then mounted to the fiberglass on the back wall? So basically the whole area behind the mdf is the new box? How do you seal the sides where the mdf meets the fiberglass? Sorry if these are stupid questions, I'm not a pro installer and I haven't been playing w/ car stereos for a while. You appear to either do this for a living or are a pretty sharp handy man. One last question, how long did it take for the fiberglass smell to go away in the cab. I used to work on surfboards back in high school and the smell of fiberglass/resin is pretty strong.

Question 12" subs

skidmarkracing
di you do the fiberglass yourself or did a shop do it for you?
looks great i am just beginning the process and could use any info (mistakes) from you i am putting 2 10: jl w3 woofers running them on a jl audio 250/1 mono amp and a 300/4 for the mids etc
is there enough room to mount the amps in the back wall flush along with the woofers?
i would love to hear from you before i make any avoidable mistakes
thanks
biged

I laid the glass. the way it works is I made the back of the box as seen in the pics. I then used a piece of mdf and glassed it to the back of the box. I then cut the holes. After that I made the facia. Would you guys like for me to make a howto with pictures and post it. This design will work for some 12's almost all 10's and perfect for 4 8's tuned. I am an IT guy but used to work at a custom shop where we did stereos to sunroofs to leather. I won usac nationals back in 89 with my nissan ( 20 15's and 16,000 watts) I have toned it down a little now.

I would prefer a "How to manual" along with a free sample unit to evaluate for the rest of the group!!

A "How To" guide on making fiberglass backed boxes would be awesome. I might not ever do it, but I would love to know how. Definately let us know if and when you will make the guide.

Yes I will make a guide with pics. This set up will take about 2 days to do (have to let the glass dry). It is totaly removable. Where do I need to post is once I am done? I do not see a how-to directory on the left side.

I think where it was posted could depend on how it was done (HTML, MS Word, etc) I think an entry into Technical Articles would be the best place for it with a mention of its existence in this thread. I'd contact the almighty webmaster for more info on how to proceed.

You put a molding material. It is basically aluminum foil with adheasive on the back. the glass will not stick to it and it can be removed once the molding is done

I am looking to build one of these fiberglass boxes and I'm curious about how much airspace you guys are finding behind the seats of your supercrews. I haven't decided yet on 3 10s or 2 12s. Probably going to be either Solobaric, JL, or Rockford subs. I also would like to use a ported box, but I am not sure if it's possible. I have a Rockford 500a2 to push them, what do you guys think?
