Upgrading factory sub.

So I have been googling this question for a while and my head is spinning. I have the factory nav and audiophile audio system in my 07 Harley. As good as everything sounds the sub sounds muddy. I was just looking to upgrade the factory sub with a newer shallow mount 8 for now.
First can I do that?
Next what sub should I look into. I have found a shallow mount Sundown 8 4ohm.
Looking to keep the stock head unit for now.
Just looking to plug something in and go from there.
Any guidance would be a appreciated. Thanks

I would assume the sub your talking about is sundowns sd series 8", sundown is a great company with quality products. I put two of their sa v3 8" subs in my truck , and they have by a long ways surpassed my expectations. Now for the first question. I believe you should be able to splice into the stock headunit, so you can run rca's to an amp aftermarket amp to run a different sub. Not a 100% sure on what you need, but I would assume someone on here can help you with that.
