Newer factory subs in a '07 F150

Hello all I tried searching this topic and couldn't find my answer. I have a 2007 King Ranch and was wondering if anyone has tried to put a factory sub from 2009 forward into a 2004-2008 model? I see plenty of the Sony subs on Ebay and like the fact that they look pretty small therefore would take up less room under the seat.

thanks for any input.

Both factory sub setups are crap, but the 04-08 box is a better fit, and they both are 8" shallow subs, so you could always upgrade the speaker in the factory box.

Yah I know they are not top of the line but I'm not the biggest fan of blowing my ear drums out like I was in my teens and 20s. Just looking to add some depth / low tones to my music.

I'm coming out of a 2013 Ram that had the 9 speaker Alpine setup and that is the biggest thing I'm going to miss is that radio.

Well, I have had both systems, the factory audiophile setup in the 04-08 and the sony system used in 09-14 and the audiophile system sounds better and is easier to upgrade if desired. You do know you need to have the audiophile deck also, there is 3 plugs on the back of the deck instead of 2, the third plug is an 8 pin (2x4) and is the feed for the sub. BTW the sub feed uses RCA level and the audiophile sub has its own amp. There is also a fuse used to power the sub amp, it's a 30 amp.

Yep I have the wire harness present but I need the Sub and a new head unit which I'm eyeballing some on ebay. The I plan on replacing the door speakers with some infinitys.

Good to know to just keep with the year range specific sub.

If I understand you correct I'll need to add in a 30 amp fuse in it's correct location.

Thanks for all your input so far!

If you have the sub harness already, there is a good chance the 30 amp fuse is already there. IIRC it's the only 30 amp on the truck. Look in your owners manual for the location.

I put my own Sony box/Sub in my truck. Using a 2010 F250 sub amplifier, and a crossover/bass boost pre amp.

Ford also sells a Kicker "plug and play" kit for like 400 bucks for sub/amp/box.
And a bigger kit with door speakers, and sub/amp/box for 600 or 700

I don't think kicker makes the plug n play kits for an 07, which is what the op's truck is.

I think that's correct the kickers are not for my year. I found a factory sub off an '06 on ebay that should show next week. Now I gotta find a new head unit and then thinking infinity 6x8's. But if anyone has a good experience with another set I'm open.

All of the audiophile decks also have the built in 6 disc cd changer, and they are problematic. They tend to jam and quit working, not a problem if you don't listen to cd's. Also the 07 and 08 decks have the aux input enabled for an mp3 player or your phone. If a good deck can't be found for a good price, try just going aftermarket. Almost all aftermarket decks will fit with just a simple bracket, single DIN and double DIN, and will bypass the castrated factory EQ curve. Just make sure you get one with a sub output to drive the factory sub. Just by changing out the deck and getting better door speakers your system will have at least a 200% improvement over the factory setup. You don't have to break the bank either, a $100 deck and two pairs of $50 6x8's is all you need. And if you buy from crutchfield, they throw in the harness adapters for free. The first upgrade I did on my 07 audio system was to replace the factory deck for a better one and it really woke up the stock sub, it has some power and can thump a little, if given a chance.

I hear ya on the aftermarket deck but I'm just such a suckered for the stock/factory look... I'm watching a head unit on ebay right now but it's an 05-06 year which I think the antenna jack is different. Is there an adapter out there to fix that? The infinity speakers are 54 an pair on amazon right now and come fairly well rated.

You are correct, the 04 to 06 used the industry standard antenna jack. The 07 and up switched to the Chrysler style jack. You can buy an adapter from crutchfield, sonic electronics, and probably your local best buy. Last I checked, they were about 12 bucks online, about 20 in the local brick and mortar.

Well I got the sub and head unit today but the wire in the dash is not the same as the the one on the head unit. Am I missing something?

Yeah that plug does not look right. Is there another one in there somewhere? Some members have found it taped to a brace inside the dash or even the inside of the firewall.

Figured it out we are looking at the cap to the plug end. Pulled the cap and plugs right in. Sub sounds soooo much better but my head unit is all jacked up. The line in isn't working and it doesn't fit right despite it saying on the auction it does.
