New Door Speakers

Driverside Rear door speaker is buzzing... Time to upgrade the rears! Going 6x8s again.

Have the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 in the front doors. Highs and Mids are great, but no bass to speak of.
Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 6"x8" 3-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com

Also have a Pioneer 3200bt Headunit, otherwise stock system

Looking at either Pioneer or Infinity now.
Pioneer TS-A6885R 5"x7"/6"x8" 4-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com
Infinity Reference X REF-8602cfx 5"x7"/6"x8" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com

Leaning towards the Pioneers since they're 4-way, lower Frequency Response, and higher (350 vs 180w) peak power rating.

Yeah, not going to happen. Why have 4 speakers and only use 2?

You should research topics like proper soundstage in a vehcile and benefits of higher quality speakers. I would assume you think 4-way speakers are better too because they are "4-way". Do your research. Rear speakers draw away the sound from where its supposed to be and that's in the front. If the music sounds like its coming from the sides where the speakers are and not the top center of the dash then your soundstage is garbage. When you are at a concert there's no rear speaker's right? I'll gladly take my $6k audio system with ONE set of mids/tweeters and politely out SQ whatever system comes my way in 95% of the F150s out there. Yes I only have one sub so I won't win a bass contest but I'm all about SQ and you won't find many folks dropping that kind of money into a trucks audio system like I have.

It's always amazed me how many folks don't quite grasp higher end audio concepts. Everyone wants more bass nobody wants quality. Such a shame.

No rear speakers at a concert, but proper acoustics take care of that. Hard to have surround sound with only 2 speakers also...

I'm not building a $6k audio system, I'm replacing a blown out factory speaker.

My truck has the same problem with a rear factory speaker.
Thanks for the speaker info.

I'm waiting to hear back from Crutchfield on their price, Amazon has the same speakers for $50 and free shipping. Then another $8 for wiring harnesses

Wink

I love Pioneer. Been using them for ever. I'm gonna get a set of the TS-D6802R's. The TS-A6885 is a good choice. It's peak watts are bit higher, but at 60 watts, the RMS is the same for both. I had a set of the TS-A6985R's in my '94 T'bird. Same as what you are looking at except in a 6x9. And they were great. Good luck on your choice.

I know you already made your choice, but for future reference and for others reading this thread; I got the Inifintys off of EBay for $60 shipped. I'll be using them as rear fill in the rear doors, off of the factory Sony amp. The fronts will be Infinity Kappa 6.5 components run off of JL amp.
The Inifintys are very nice for the money. The specs are hard to beat for the money and while I haven't heard there's specific speakers yet they look, feel and spec out as if they cost a hell of lot more than they did. I've run Inifintys in a few previous systems and have never been disappointed with either the Kappa or Reference series.

Just an update. The Pioneers fit perfectly and sound great. Super impressed with the high and low response from them. Now I have to go back and deaden the doors since I can hear the plastic buzzing.
