Reg Cab System Issues
Reg Cab System Issues
Hey Guys. I currently have a 05 Reg Cab and I have a Audio Enchancers PBT112 box with a Polk DXI 12 in it with a Kenwood 9103D Amp and and Kicker RS Coaxials all the way around with a Kenwood Excelon 897 HU. Im thinking of upgrading the the Subs with 2x JL10W3v3-4 and getting some components in my doors (Focal, Helix, Polk DB, or Hertz). I guess my question is do I need two of those JL 10's or just one. Also which of those components would you recommend? For some back story I came from a hatchback and had infinity Kappa Perfects all the way around amped by a RF 4 channel and had the current sub I have in a preloaded box and it sound great with any type of music I listened to. I am running into the issue now of obvious space issues and this setup is no where near what I had in the car. What would be your recommendation?
As a general rule of thumb, even if you have the same system in a car and move it to a truck, the car will always sound better. Just all around better acoustics.
Now for the sub, if you want the same or more output, I'd go with two subs. If you want less output, then one sub should suffice and you can always add a second later. Of course this is relative to the box you can fit and what your amp will support.
Two subs in an undersized box will sound a lot worse than one sub in the proper sized box.
All those brands make pretty nice components, but all are slightly different with their tone. I'd recommend trying to listen to them all in person and if you can't do that, then read lots of reviews to find the ones that fit your taste the best.
And tweeter mounting is going to be really important as well to build a proper sound stage. There's a how to article over on diyma on building tweeter pods that'll mount to your a-pillar trim. I'd recommend doing that so you can angle them properly to get optimal sound.
One more thing that'll really help the sound is sound deadening the doors and rear wall.

I've only had personal experience with Second Skin and Raam Mat, but both of those are great products. There's plenty of manufacturers though that make good stuff depending on what your price range is for it.
I recently installed 50mil GT Matt that I found on ebay. Great price per square foot and does a great gob. Also a hint for the doors, Use about 3 layers of rubberized undercoating on the backside if the door skin in conjunction with the matt behind the door panel. I can blast mine as loud as I want with no rattles at all. When it comes to mids and high I am partial to Polk but the others would sound good too. Polks price to sound quality ratio is great.
