2013 factory subwoofer questions

Ok guys just got my 2013 screw about 2 weeks ago. Traded in my 2006 screw which I added a factory subwoofer too. I want to do the same with this truck. (I like the factory look and don't need a ton of bass) I think the easiest way would be to pick up the PAC unit that plugs into the head unit and run wires to the factory sub. My question is when I search online about the subwoofers I see 2 different versions. They look exactly the same but one has a mounted amplifier and the other just has a wire harness to a connector where the amp would be. Did some trucks have a remote mounted amp? Either way I know I can get it to work. Just my curiosity got the best of me! Thanks for any help.

I'm also thinking that mounting the amp closer to the head unit will be a lot easier. I would do most of my wiring near the head unit and only have to run the speaker wire to the sub rather than all the power and speaker wires.

I really like that Soundgate box (especially the powerstage one) but hot damn it's insanely expensive.

Hey TMD, I have a factory sony sub out of my 13 if your interested. It will need an external amp. I have it wired up in a 2 ohm load and the wires are marked and both sides of the plug are there along with the mounting brackets. It fits under the passenger side rear seat on a screw.

$925 + shipping for the Powerstage (subwoofer/amp + DSP amp)
$499 + shipping for the Substage (includes 4 Kicker KS68 speakers)
