I have a 2012 f150 screw and I just purchased a single box with one 12. Just curious does it sound better with it fireing into the floor or the bottom side of the seat? I can build a spacer if downfire sounds better but I just was curious before I spend all the time building a spacer. Thanks!

 

Not sure what you mean by build a spacer, but sub woofers and low frequency sound are all about air movement. You cant leave it firing straight into floor or carpet! Additionally the speaker itself needs room for the cone to move in and out, or you will smoke that woofer in no time!

If you don't leave a way for the air to move freely in and out then you get no bass. It's like covering your mouth tightly... not much sound comes out!

It's preference, but usually mounting location determines which orientation is used for trucks. When mounting in a trunk/cargo area with more room, you can fire forward, back, or even up or down if you wanted. My 2 12s in my 2006 Screw fire down. I'd mount them firing down so that the seat bottom doesn't have any potential of hitting the sub if you get a big boy sittin back there or you get a little rambunctious with your lady friends.

 

Subs are omni directional, meaning travels in all directions. Sub bass will pass through objects. If under the seat I would fire them down for the sake of longevity and damage by occupants or cargo. Behind the seat is possible but requires ingenuity and know how.

 

I fire mine down. They say to aim your subs in a manner which directs the movement of the cone further away from your ears to allow a greater distance for lower wavelengths to travel. I know this applies to pickups a lot less than in a car or SUV, but when I had my old setup firing up, I felt a lot more satisfied with the sound firing down. Also, like others have said, there's more protection for the subs against the seats and passengers if you fire them down.
