you want loud or clean? ported boxes will e louder than sealed. jl is about the best sounding sub ive heard in a small box like that. rockford and memphis make decent shallow mount subs though

I was thinking the fox box it's ported.
I want good combination of loud and clean.
I was thinking 2 jl w3's but someone else said they require alittle more air space than that box has??
And heard things about alpine type r's?

I have a shallow type r 12" in my truck, and it does pretty good for a shallow mount. In my opinion it outperforms the JL shallow both in output and low end extension, and I'd say it's better than the RE SeX, Kicker CompVT's, JL w1 & w3, Exile Audio S12, Rockford Fosgate P3S, and possibly the Ascendant Audio Assassin. The only subs I've owned that outperformed it would be the Skar VVX-8 and the SSA Icon 10". But both of those where getting over double the power and in a ported box. But that's about all I can compare it too because I think that's all I've owned/had in my truck. But anyways, the shallow was good enough where it outperformed the last generation regular type-r, so alpine went back and redesigned them and apparently there a good bit better now. So I couldn't expect them to be bad, and I could definitely see them being a good deal better than the w3's. JL's good, but you pay a lot for the name so you almost have to compare them to stuff about 2/3 of the price for it to be even.

Thanks alot for the informative info. So if I went with this fox box, 2 10s, do you think the alpine type r's would be a good fit. I was trying to find out info on these subs airspace requirements and such in a ported enclosure but haven't found this.... Any help would be much appreciated also.
Also if I go with these subs what is a good amp to pair up with these 2 10s??
Does alpine make some good amps also so I could just go with one brand for everything?
Thanks alot

Alpine, jl, kicker, and Rockford fosgate all make good amps that'll do right around rated, all of them are equally comparable. Then there's amps like sundown, mmats, audioque, skar, crescendo, incriminator audio, and digital designs that'll all do above the rated power. There's also amps like mb quart, hifonics, and re audio that'll do pretty close to rated but a little lower. Just depends on how much you want to spend and you won't see any benefit running same brand stuff besides being able to say its all the same.

But I'd definitely consider doing the big 3 to help with current draw.

And can't really recommend an amp until you decide on the dual 2 or dual 4 ohm model sub. But according to the alpine website they like between .8-1.4 cf ported so they should do okay.

2 Rockford PS3 10
Rockford P500x1BD
Box similar to the fox box you are looking at but its not ported.
