Silver cones are the REF 's. Black is the PRO's. From what I have seen PRO's seem to hit better then the Ref's

Bi-amped AND passive?

I'm going to run my X's passive just because I'm don't really have a versatile EQ or time alignment capabilities... yet. I justified the cost of the X's because I'm keeping my stock rear speakers and fading them down. I have black cones...

Yeah the 2012 type r have separate passive crossovers for bi- amping .I just about got the x's on a few bids on ebay but lost .Yeah I know the x's have phase adjustments in the crossovers witch seems cool .Let us know how you like them .

No mine are a couple years old. Never had a problem and the clarity and loudness are better than my needs. They are running off an alpine amp giving them 150 rms a side.

Well, I've been listening to the SPX-17PRO's for a week now. They're being run passive off an Alpine PDX-V9 with the tweeters in little PVC pods and the mids in the stock location...

The tweeters are sweet. Not too bright or harsh, just clear, smooth highs. The crossovers are nice as well... there's lots of nice tuning options with the provided phase link plugs, but I think some people might want the tweeters attenuated some more. I'm happy with them at -3dB.

On the other hand, the midbass is weak. I turned off my sub and played them full range, and they just seemed lacking considering the price, nice build quality, and the treatments I did to the doors.

I'm using an SBR-S83V for bass, and it blends really well with these components. It's tight, accurate, still hits low, and it's the reason why I'm okay with the less than stellar midbass... it just fills in all the gaps.

front doors: kicker QS6.5c
rear doors: kicker KS68
custom center console sub box housing 10" kicker L7. box is tuned to 50Hz
amp 1 - kicker ix500.4
amp2 - kicker ix1000.1
Kicker 0 gauge wire.
Kicker 4ch & 2ch RCA's
pioneer double din with triple 4volt pre out.

I initially had the front doors bi-amped, decided to use the crossovers in the end. I highly recommend the QS6.5c. I had type r components before I did the system rebuild with kicker. I don't regret switching at all. to give you some perspective the first system was just whatever I had laying around. JVC avx720 dub din, type r components, pioneer shallow mount 12inch sub, audiobahn amp, and 8 gauge wire.
waiting for an audio processor, possibly a ms8.

if you're looking for help in finding an amp, more details about the speakers, subs, and headunit would be nice.
