All Done

To recap my previous post: I initially installed JL C5-570 speakers in the front and rear doors of my Scab along with a JL 300/4 amp and a Audio Control LC6i control. Over all this made a very nice upgrade to my stock (reg) sync system and kept the stock apperance. However: I didn't get near the bottom end I was hoping for. Next I wanted to install a sub woofer, but didn't want to loose my jack ( I do a lot of traveling), nor did I want to install a center console in the back. So I custom built a sub box that goes under the rear passager side rear seat ( the 40 side of the 60/40 split seat). In order to get the proper air space for the sub box, it had to be notched around the pillar support for the seating, I also built an extention piece to make everything look uniform. I went with a Rockford Fosgate 500/1 amp and a R2D4 sub. This took my system to a whole other level. You won't hear me coming and I won't set off car alarms, but it sounds great. The sub set up with installation was under $400 including the box, the entire set up was around $1700, I could have saved about $400 if I did it myself, but didn't have that kind of time. In hindsight I think you could go with a less expensive front and rear speakers and almost achieve the same quality. I also wish I had gotten a seperate not a combinded front coaxial speakers, but I'm not going to change it out now. I extremly happy with my set up. Thanks to all that provided me with information, it was very useful. Hope other find this info use full good luck and keep rocking the free world

Do you think it was due to the 5x7" speakers vs. 2 pairs of 6x8" speakers? I've read and heard that 6x8's put out more Bass than a comparable 5x7. Glad your enjoying it.

Did the shop run new speaker wires or are you using the stockspeaker harnesses? What part did you use to keep the Sync in tact? Is the SYNC system functioning properly? How badly did they cut up your factory HU harness?

I have SYNC & the Communications Package in my STX. I would love to install an amp to add a little power to my 6x8" Kenwood's. But, I do not want to cut up a factory harness to do so. Plus, I've read a few online reviews that mentions the harnesses to keep SYNC in tact are really poor at doing their job. A lot of quality issues in the harnesses.

Enjoy the sound system...

I don't think you will notice any diffrence between the 5X7 and the 6X8. When buying the C-5-570x's I was looking at the frequency response and the C-5 seemed to be one of the lowest for the 5x7 or 6x8's ( they seem to be one of the best 5x7's on the market), I believe that it was from 48hz to 25Khz. I did use the stock speaker wires, for the wattage I am pushing (75RMS) and the type speakers I don't think the human ear can tell the diffrence. I also did use the stock harness and although I didn't see the install I know they cut into the OEM harness, this didn't bother me so much as I plan on keeping the truck until the wheels fall off, and by then I'll need a new system anyway, but there are hanesses out there that you can use to avoid cutting the oem harness. I would have to assume that they cut into it somewhere between the connector and the speakers. All functions work as they should including the steering wheel controls. I would recommend getting some sort of line leveler like the Audio Control LC6i or similar. Our stock head units tends to knock down the bass as the volumn is turned up so as to not blow the cheap stock speakers. This will hurt your sound quality regardless of the amp. There are some great articles in this forum that can provide better info, I'm just not very good at providing a link..sorry..To me if you are planning on keeping your truck for 5 or more years cutting the harness is over rated, because who is going to tear there truck apart to salvage outdated equipment. And if you any relationship with your Ford dealership they won't mess with you over it. I know mine won't. Hope covered everything..good luck

Let me correct myself; the SYNC harness issues are when upgrading to an aftermarket HU which you haven't done. I need some rest.

Thanks.
