Few Questions

Hey guys

I am really new to this type of stuff. Just a few questions I have pondered lately. I have the stock CD with stereo in my 04 XLT extended cab. Just to make the sound quality a bit better what could I do for not a lot of $$. Keep in mind, no rush at all and I would piece a simple system together over a years time or so. Ok, I see people talk about the saleen subs. Is that something I could simply install or since I don't have the Audiophile I would need extra work? I really just want clearer sound and a bit more bass so it doesn't sound tinny like it does in factory form now I understand we have 6x8 speakers? Here are my thoughts: Upgrade the door speakers only and maybe a head unit. No crazy GPS or blue tooth. Just so the speakers would not be underpowered. My main priority is the speakers though. I have no wiring experience so I really want plug and play to be honest. Just a nicer sound over stock is all I am after. I would love a crazy set-up but I'll save that for later years

Any input and recommendations? I want this simple and done on a budget, however I don't know what some of this stuff runs. I guess say under 100 for each pair of speakers?

Oh and I meant a double din, so if it has the nav and stuff fine, but I wont necessarily hook it up. I know someone can help me with speak choices though

you will have to build an adapter harness to be plug and play with the factory harness, but its really straight forward, and should come with instructions.

Good to know Pat, I might have a shop do the headunit install if it looks too crazy. But if I can figure out a good one to install I might give it a go

The Saleen sub is plug and play, but they aren't very good. I had one and then sold it. Actually made money on it.

If you want better sound get a new head unit. I went with a JVC 7" touch screen that plays dvd's as well. Pretty nice so far.

Mine doesn't have BT. It cost me like $375 last year. Mine is outdated though. I got lucky when I found it at year end model end pricing.

They're up to an kw-avx830 model now. I got mine off ebay. I had to modify a mounting kit to make it mount up properly. I searched threads here to see what I'd have to do to mount the unit myself, which was easy.

Ok, Thanks for that Will. I feel like my truck would be fairly straight forward because I don't have the steering wheel controls. I am just looking to get something with better sound without adding all sorts of matting and what not. Do you have any speaker recommendations that plug and play, or is there more involved?

Well I'm planning on one day putting a small system in mine, have around 80% of the stuff lying around, like PG 6.5 door front components which are not installed, but I have some polk db speakers in the rear doors. Not too happy with them though, wouldn't recommend them. Honestly a new deck will liven up the stock speakers pretty well, but aftermarket door speakers will sound even better with a new deck. Alpine makes good speakers for the doors.

Here's a link to the deck I'm talking about. Remember the price can be had cheaper, crutchfield is good for info...
