Sony Factory Subwoofer

Sony Factory Subwoofer
I have a new 2010 Supercrew with the Sony sound system. I am interested in upgrading the speakers and subwoofer. Not really intersted in picking up volume, but want better sound. Last night I removed the factory subwoofer from under the rear seat. It was an 8" sub, 12ohm, 60watts. There were two sets of wires running from the factory amp to the sub. Is there any option for just replacing this sub with a better one, or do I have to find a new amp as well. I see a lot of subs in the 2, 4, and 8 ohm rating, but Ive never seen a 12 ohm. Also, what are the two sets of wires for?

For those that have upgraded their subs in their truck:
I want to put a sub in under the rear seat but if I need the space, lifting the seats up, I would like to be able to unplug the sub/amp and still have a functional stereo (temporarily) until I can plug the sub/amp back in..
Is this possible? (I have a '10 F-150 STX)
