06 Expedition Subwoofer Encloser

All:

I have a 2006 Expedition XLT. I would really like to put in a subwoofer of some nature, nothing big but I am not sure what to do. From what I can tell so far, there are no custom designed enclosures for this model that I can sneak away with and I really don't want to take up behind the 3rd row with a box as I use that for storage of stuff when traveling and such. Can anyone give me any ideas on what I may be able to do?

Also, are the 8" speakers in the rear subs or just standard stock speakers? My first thought was simply putting a couple of 8" subs in those locations but didn't know if that would work.

I don't need anything drastic as I am not looking for a thumping truck, just something to give a better sound. The truck is stock right now with a 6 disc changer in the head unit, no nav and a drop down DVD screen in the 2nd row.

Thanks for any help.

Looks nice. Is that right next to the 3rd row?

Yes it is in the stock subwoofer location near the third row. It is fiberglass that fits the body line in the back of the box. I do not have any pics of the box out of the truck as some ******* ripped off my laptop.

Ok, so quick question as I have not pulled anything out of the truck yet and it is all stock, are those rear speakers subwoofers or just simple 8" standard speakers? Can those locations hold simple 8" subs or do they have to be modified to hold anything other than stock?

Looking at my options for what I can do with this.

Thanks.

If you have the audiophile system you have a 8" woofer located in a plastic box powered by a crappy little amp. there is some room back there but you will have to make a box. My box is a little on the small side for a 10". you may want to try a good 8" or a 10 that is set up for little airspace.

I used a JL Audio ground lug on the body in the back of the truck.

Well I bought the truck used and I don't believe it has anything spectacular in it. I looked last night quickly but saw no definitive speaker slots or covers in the rear but it was quick and I could have missed them. I know Crutchfield identifies that there are 2 8" speakers back there. This is stock still, I have the standard Ford in dash 6 disc changer, a small drop down DVD player mounted right behind the 1st row seats.

I like your setup 06expy. Been trying to put a sub in my 08 for a while. I put in some 4" components for the third row a few months back and Im gonna try looking for space for the sub. That rear a/c unit takes up more space than I expected.

Is the outer fiberglass piece a cover or is it attached to the box?
