Need help porting a box

Hey guys I need some help here. Im planning on getting a new Digital Designs 12in DD2500. From everything I've seen DD recommends a ported box. I want to use the same box (in the link) and put the sub where the top sub is. My question is what port to use, Aero(circular) or slot, and where to put it.

This is the first time I've ever messed with a ported box. So I really need some help.

Thanks

what is the airspace of the box (net, sealed) and what tuning do you want for the box?

Are you comfortable building a folded port?

will it be behind a seat, or in the middle like in the pics?

Ok the box is around 2.7cuft. I don't really know much with tuning or porting because this would be my first. I know someone that can help build the port and the box will be in the middle.

Personally, I'd talk to Digital Designs. I'd tell them which speaker you have, and what kind of music you mostly listen to. I find round ABS / PVC ports to be the easiest. Ask them what the "optimum cubes" for you sub would be. Then, ask them if a 4" diameter port would be okay. {I think it would}. If so, what would be the optimum length of such a port. Figuring out port length, and diamter is actually easy to do with any number of speaker box calculators..... But it's not neccessary, if you just talk to the manufacturer, who can quickly, and easily figure out this stuff for you. Plus, they know their own equipment, better than anyone.

Peace,
Fish

My box is 3 cubes, for two 12"s. I used a 6" diameter port, and tuned it to 29hz. Works fantastic

Nice setup Fish! I find round ports easier to work with as well. A 4" flared aeroport or Precision Port should be enough for that sub.

I don't have WinISD on this comp, but I usually tune in the low 30s.

Thanks guys I'll call them tomorrow and try findin out what to do and if all else fails I guess I'll see about just gettin 2 subs and keep it sealed. That'll save me alot of work since I already put carpet on it.

If you have any recommendations on some good subs around $200 that'll match well with a kicker 750.1 feel free to tell me. If not I'm thinking about some 10in DD1500s. Thanks for any help.

Hey, speaking of "flared" ports, I made my own....

Just placed one end of my 6" PVC on top of a bowling ball. Set it on concrete, and slowly turned it, while a buddy heated the edge with a propane torch. When it finally got hot enough, and pliable, I set my fat **** up on top of the 6" PVC pipe, and it curled out around the bowling ball

Looks cool anyway. Not sure if it makes any difference in sound.

A quick plug in to winisd shows it is not bad in your box size. I would use a 5" port about 22" long. It should end up being about 2.3-2.4 cubes tuned to about 30. Should be loud and low.
