Not much, I figure for a good decent system would cost around $1000. I have a small mono amp, that I ran one 12 on, I don't remember the wattage, I'll have to check, that is still under my seat.

What is the difference between 2 ohms and 4 ohms?

Ohms is the measure of electrical resistance. The higher the number, the less resistance, and in theory, the less power capable of being produced.

For a grand, do you want box, wiring, subs and amps? Or are we talking door speakers too? How about install...gonna do it yourself or have pros do it?

I'm assuming that'll be the price for everything, including doors and setup.

Okay. Its gonna be hard to find two type R's and the neccessary amp to push them and all the other goodies for that money. Just an idea of what this would cost, retail cost, through me...

2 Type R 10's and 2 Alpine MRP-M500's
1242D's - $199.99x2
M500's - $209.99x2
RF Dual Amp Kit - $134.99
Labor - $185
Box - Whatever on ebay

So through me youd be lookin at $1135 + the price of the box. You could substitute the two alpine amps with 1 rockford, but it retails at $600.

Of course, most of this stuff can be found at discount online retailers for less cost, but then you run the risk of it not being authorize dealer (alpine is VERY particular about this.) So yeah...let me know whatever questions you have.

I can't find a 10inch 1242D, but I did find it for $139. But I was thinking:

1042D: $109x2
M1000: $319 (for the subs, how do you know what kind of wattage is good?)
PDX-4.150: $439
Type R Speakers: $76x2
Box: $90

That is over $1000 as well, guess I'm going to have to save up.

Im sorry, 1042 is the 10inch of the 1242...it was late last night lol.

The m1000 wont work for two of the dual 4 ohm voice coil subs. you need an amp thats 1000w rms at 1 ohm or 1000w rms at 4 ohms. The m1000 does 600 at 4 ohms and 1000 at 2 ohms.
