JL Audio

Hey guys im in the search for a whole new sound system for my truck and a lot of people i talk to are pointing me in the direction of JL Audio. I was just wondering what your opinions are on there products. Or if there is anything else you would suggest I would really appreciate it. Im looking for all four door speakers and two subs( 10 or 12in.) Thanks guys!
-Mike!

There are lots of opinions on the subject of JL Audio.....

Personally... I love JL... Not only for the quality, but for the look and design of their products. They make classy timeless designs.... Their styling goes with the look that i try to put into my builds....

They look good... but they also do a great job at what they are designed for as well... Some will say that the same quality or better can be had for less or the same price... which is true in some cases...

but in my opinion and in my builds i use JL..

Others will be along shortly to tell of their sides about how they think JL is crap because its too overpriced and too mainstream.....

Everything ive read says JL is the best of the mainstream. Its also said that if you get out of the mainstream and willing to do a little research there are better for less $$.

Your also going to be told to run a set of 6.5 comps in the front and some kind of filler in the rear doors if any at all.

diymobileaudio.com is a great tool.

If I could afford JL, I would go with them. I have never heard a crappy JL sound setup. But if I'm balancing between value and quality, I'd aim at Rockford Fosgate or Alpine for the doors, Rockford Fosgate or Kicker for the amps, and Pioneer or Kicker for the subs (if you're in the market for shallow subs). For me, those are just my opinions.

Thats my opinion...

I used JL everything for my set up... Fronts, rears, sub and amps. Could I have just as good of a system, or better, for less, by using lesser known brands, yeah I probably could. I decided to go with JL because it was simply easier for me. I got all my gear of eBay so I wasn't paying nearly as much as the retail price.

It sounds great to me, and I love the StealthBox subwoofer. There's a guy selling his in the classifieds right now, it'd be a pretty good deal.

I know JL make great amps and their W line of subs are nice too. But for door speakers I wouldn't go for anything else but Memphis Audio MClass. I love their subs as well.

jl is pretty good but way too expensive for me... there are other brands out there that are just as good if not better that are 1/2 the price and 2X the customer service

My opinion is anything works. I normally go for looks, technical specs like crossover frequencies and power handling, and the biggest thing for me, PRICE! Everyone is entitled to their opinion regardless of how different it is from anyone else. Personally, I'm a Rockford fan except their shallow P3 subs. Those are GARBAGE! But their punch and power series components are fantastic!

JL has built up a reputation of quality over the years, and for good reason: they make quality stuff, period. But they take their name and use it to overcharge for their products and they've taken it too far. Yes JL still has a little bit of quality control unlike most mainstream companies, but it is not the same as it used to be. Chinese made now where everything used to be hand made in the USA, which is a common theme among a lot of companies unfortunately. Essentially you are just paying for the name at this point.

Now in some cases, these trucks for an example, its almost practical to pay for some of their stuff because its unique and fits space-limited installs: examples being the HD amplifiers and tw5 subwoofers.

However, of all the manufacturers listed so far in this thread, I wouldn't use any of them over JL. And that is because most mainstream is garbage.
