Box for my Harley...

K guys here's the deal. Been spending hours reading up and weighing my options on a sub box for my SCrew. I live in Hawaii so you can imagine how much it would be to ship a box from Fox or anywhere else. I think the shipping came out as much as the box. So my only option is to build one. I'm looking at running (2) JL AUDIO 10W3V3 300 WATT subs and had a few questions. Are there any other subs that take up less space but hit harder?

Looking at all the pictures of boxes I was wondering how, or if at all they were seperated in the inside or share the same space.

How much space will I need under the subs from the carpet for them to function properly?

What thickness MDF board should I go with?

I know to use glue and screws but where should I get the carpet?

Sorry for the barrage but all the search doing was starting to frustrate me.

thanks

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sp...rcrew-cab.html will give you an idea. i follwed it pretty close and had good results.

xmax is 0.550 on those jl so figure that plus a little extra say at least total 0.625

for thickness i used 5/8 but i would recommned 3/4 mdf for the baffles.

pep boys would have carpet or try an upholstery or fabric shop

Thanks Papi, I found that one prior to my posting when I was searching. Still though I appreciate all the other info. What are you talking about when you you say "baffles"?? Also do you know if the airspace inside the box is seperated or the subs share the airspace. i have no idea what these boxes are like in the inside.

thanks

the baffles are the mounting surface of the speakers. in this case it would be the whole bottom piece of the enclosure. you could get away with 5/8 mdf it's done all the time with prefab boxes. all the enclosures i have seen are not seperated internally, that is they share the airspace. some will argue for or against it being seperated but 99.99% of the boxes are unseperated.

here is a page from a guy who builds boxes.. there are alot of pics in each topic.. then you can get a idea of how they look and how to build your own... there are flared ports.. slot ports... how it works with 2 subs that share space and how the port works..

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/f...nd-that-sound/

here is a page that you can put it the box size..and what hz you want it ported to so it will sound it best...
http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

JL subs are nice... but they are way over priced for what you get... you pay for the name... these would be my choice... i have the 15' SSA Xcon and it hits so hard but sounds so clear, ... but people love these SSA DECON 10's here is a link to them
http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/s...7B47%7DS4.html

here is a package deal with 2 subs and a great amp to match...

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/s...5.2-Combo.html

here is a link if you want to read about them, and see what others who have bought them have to say.. or ask some qustions

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/f...lutions-audio/

hope this helps you with some of your qustions.. at the link above there is also Fi subs and a few other top of the line subs...

your welcome... hey do you have bucket seats in the rear ? if you do, i would build a box like a console between the rear seats... i have seen a few and they looked sharp.. that is what i am doing as soon as i find some nice bucket seats that will match my fronts.. have to wait for spring now tell it warms up some here..
