Pick me out a sound system..

So i know nothing about sound systems, other than pretty much everyone but me has one. For now i just want a new head unit and speakers and an amp for the speakers. I have an 02 supercrew. I want very high quality, long lasting speakers i listen to mostly rap and country, i dont want to be blowing speakers. And some speakers where i could have a little bit of bass in them. And my only requirements for the headunit is it needs an auxilary plug in so i can use my iphone to listen to music. So someone post up some links, of what you think is the best that would work for me please, thank you.

Well if you know nothing about sound systems, I would set aside at least 400-500 of that money for a professional installation. That leaves us around a grand to work with on equipment which is plenty. I would make sure to buy your stuff authorized so you have a solid warranty just in case stuff breaks (which can definitly happen).

For the HU, I would get the Alpine 9887. Excellent Ipod integration, and you can run a set of components with active crossovers (installer can help you with that). It gives you some decent tuning ability. You can find this HU for around 250-300 dollars if you look hard enough. If you do not want to spend that much, get the 9886 which will still give you the good ipod integration but will be more limited on tuning and you will need to use passive crossovers.

I'd then look at a 5 channel amplifier to run your active components, something like the PDX5 which will fit easily behind or under a seat. Run a single 10" subwoofer off the sub channel. Then for rear speakers, just either leave the stockers run on the head unit turned down, or get some efficient 5x7 replacements.

For the front speakers, get some nice 6.5" component speakers.

I'd go to your local installers and see what kind of prices you can get on equipment. It will be warrantied, and you will save money on installation if you buy direct from them.

Building off what MSall suggested, and kind of throwing a plug in their for my company, were running a deal right now That if you buy a headunit and speakers and install for both totalling 199 or more, you get 100 off. Most shops too are offering 150 if you do all 4 speakers and a headunit. Heres some equpiment suggestions.
Alpine 9886
Alpine Type S Components
Alpine PDX 5

If you need professional install but would rather buy your stuff online where its usually cheaper with no warranty, thats fine. Our install prices are the same regardless.

Some great speakers that many of my friends me included is Ifinity Kappa's. There about $100 a pair and sound amazing. And for a subwoofer I use a Boston Acoustic G3 10 inch and it sounds great. Just my sujestion.

drive around your area and go to the shops that look appealing, a shop with proffesionals will look proffesional...make a friend(s) there and they'll give yah discounts on stuff when u buy direct (be polite and show interest in making business with them)..as for what msall and sundevil said, stick with alpine, very great reliable stuff!

T-rob... Dude... Please take my advice. I've been a member since 2003. Just don't purchase anything everyone tells you to. If you notice my post count isn't very high, so I guess I'm considered a lurker. While lurking in the audio forum, I've dealt with Sall and Sundevil a few times and they and a few others seem to be the authorities when it comes to audio. They not only recommend a component, but also always give an explanation with it. These forums are just like anything else online. A little research will go a long way. I've found there are posters here that seem to post just to get their post counts up. Obviously, I don't fall into that category. Just take a look at some of the profiles and see what they post. Just a little advice from a 6 year lurker.

I'm a fan of polk audio. good quality speakers. I have polk audio 650's and polk 570s in the back of my 96, paired with A Pioneer premiere HU. It's a pretty solid setup and bang for the buck
I'm still lookin for a sub/amp/box setup so I can't give advice on that aspect.

If you're really after SQ stick to round speakers rather than oblong (5x7, 6x9) I can't tell the difference but some people claim that it's a world of difference.
Components also, if you can afford it are a great improvement over typical speakers.
Go ahead and look around, crutchfield is a great resource, however their prices tend to be a little overkill unless your buying a HU because then it includes all the installation equipment free of charge. Read the reviews people have given and shop around til you find something you like and fits your criteria.
