infinity arent top o the line. i have toasted them before. imo
Wow, man those are nice. Maybe some day I'll be able to step up to the plate with something like that.

For right now I'm just looking to get something better that will sound good. I do not plan on ever getting rid of the truck, and there's always room for improvement.

Infinity speakers are garbage, the tweeters are incredibly harsh (and especially off little power like you will have). Most JBL speakers i've heard havent impressed me except for their wGTi subwoofer which is absolutely amazing.

I'd stick with the Polk or Alpine options you were originally looking at if you are not up for modifying your door mounts at all.

Well the tweeter design on the JBL and the infinity are the only difference, with the JBL being mylar/titanium and the infinity being textile. Don't know how much of a difference that makes in sound, but there must be some difference.

They're both domes, just different compositions.

There is a lot more to it then that. Why do you think some textile Seas tweeters cost $400 while a textile tweeter from a company like JBL would cost 1/20th of that? The frequency response of a speaker is not necessarily determined by the type of material but also by the quality of that material. But there are so many other factors contributing to the quality of sound as well. Some speakers will perform better off axis than others will, some will perform better with different power requirements or path length differences.

Try to listen to some of these speaker. While a lot of them are designed in similar ways, you will notice differences in their sound.

And yes metal dome tweeters tend to be a little harsher way up high, but that doesn't mean all are. You can get a pair of Seas metal domes (SEAS Prestige 27TAFNC/G) for $60 that IMO sound as good as a lot of $200 silk or textile tweeters out there...

Yeah, I'll have to do that. I'm basing a lot of my decisions on advice (from the experts here) and my own research (amateur research) without actually personally experiencing any of the mobile audio products. :o

I have to agree with MSall150, I'm not a fan of the Infinitys. I do like the DB571's. I have them installed in my front and rear doors and I love them. I was going to go with a Polk component set up front but wanted to just try the DB571's first, guess what? I kept them and I'm happy, lol. I'm powering them with an Alpine MRP-F300 amp. I'm also a HUGE fan of JL Subs. I have the JL 10W3v3-2 Sub and that thing really hits and I don't even have it turned up much. The only other speakers that I would have went with are the Polk MM571's.

Also

I think that JBL and Infinity are the same company. Infinity is based in Long Island NY not to far from me

JBL and Infinity are the same parent company.

Stealth...got a BBY near you? We've got that 9886 and the infinitys on display so you can hear em and play with the deck before you buy it.
