What to get?

Ok, I want to keep my stock HU and upgrade my door speakers. I want to go to 6.5's. I would like to run them on an amp. Any suggestions on amp/speaker combo? I eventually want to add a sub and another amp later. I am just doing one thing at the time. The wife wont' let me drop to much $$$ at one time. Maybe looking to spend $100 or so on speakers and up to $150 on an amp.

Do you think I should replace all 4 door speakers or what? I have add 2 RF PT1 tweets already.

I would spend your speaker money on getting better front speakers, a component set. Use budget speakers for the rear, they don't do much for the sound stage. If you're only looking to spend $250, find the best components you can find that operate at lower range wattage with room for expansion. Forget $150 amps. Plan your system and save your coins for better components when you can afford them. My advice would be to get decent front speakers that can still operate at wimpy stock wattage, but can handle at least 75 watts RMS for later upgrades. Then get add a subwoofer capable of handling 200-300 watts RMS. After that look to amp the doors.

Ok, I was looking at the Polk Db571's and the Alpine SPS-507's. The only thing with those is that I want to get 6.5's instead of 5x7's. Not sure about the mounting adapter to make them fit though.

My next question is: When I get ready to amp the doors... will I need to disconnect the harness from the speaker and run speaker wire to the amp? If so I need to know how to send the signal from my STOCK HU to the amp. I know they make some sort of signal processor or something. Someone please chime in and put me in the right direction.

When amp shopping make sure you get one with SPEAKER LEVEL INPUTS, which is a small wiring harness that will take the sound from the stock HU to the amp. You could invest in a CleanSweep by JL Audio but they are pricey and you would be better off getting a new HU

So the harness will fit my stock HU or do I need to find a specific harness?

The harness will plug into the amp and be just separate wires on the other end. You will have to "tap" into the factory speaker wiring to send the signal to your amp. There are many different options on how to do this.
