New Amped Door Speakers

I'm currently running 4 jl somethings in the doors with a JL 300/4 amp and an Apline IVA-W200 HU.

I've come to the conclusion that they sound like crap and need an upgrade.

I've seen a lot of talk between Polk's, Infinity's, Alpine, and all other types of door speakers. Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what would sound the best with my current setup.

Also just got 2 new Kicker CompVT's for under the back seat just to add more info to possibly help the suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Are your door speakers broken in yet? They might need some more time to loosen up if they are fairly new.

They are plenty broken in. Had them for 3 years now.

Forgot exactly which model but I got the more expensive ones for the front and lesser for the rear so I was going to upgrade the front ones and just toss the current fronts in the back.

Those Premier's look pretty nice. Never messed with a component system like that. There anything special to the install?

Well for a 6.5 you'll need a adapter plate to make them fit in the hole. A few guys on here have had good experiences with the Polk Audio db571 which is a 5x7. What sort of budget do you have for speakers?

Yeah I've seen a few of those adapters on ebay, pretty cheap.

As far as budget goes, I was thinking about staying under $300 for the pair, but its flexible.

head over to www.woofersect.com and look at the 6.5's. I didn't notice till today that you can get Focal and Rainbow from them now. In the $300+ range any of those other speakers listed will be pretty impressive. These are on a different level because you're moving out of the general class into the mid range class of speakers. Sound Quality will be noticeably better.

Higher end is going to cost $600+ for a pair up to about $2k for the top of the line stuff. Seriously though the $300 range is a sweet spot and you won't regret anything you buy long as you do it smart. So post back with your thoughts before you drop a dollar.

Ok so wow lots of stuff to look at on that site.

Lets see my amp says 75 W RMS x 4 @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm So im guessing I should get something thats around that area.

and

both look great but with so many in close relation to those its hard to make a choice.

That's a pretty good price. I'd go for it.

Before doing any of this, I would improve the install and get a processor. Why spend hundreds on name brand speakers (without the warranty from those sites ) when you can make your current ones sound like pure sexiness? I paid less than $200 for my front stage speakers (bought used) and they sound better than most high dollar component sets out of the box.

Look up threads on door treatments. It will make a big difference. Also, If i were you I would ditch the rear speakers and run the 4 channel on 2-way front components. Either go active, or if you have no idea what that is then bridge the amplifier for more power to some passive components.

The door treatment definately looks like a great idea.

Not sure what you mean by getting a processor and the whole active thing is over my head so ill stay away from it.

And I'm pretty much set on getting 2-way components for the front and I've ran without the rear speakers before and didnt like it.

So hell I dunno, probably end up getting those Focal's and figure out the best way to treat my doors.

Appreciate the replies and if anyone has more tips im all ears.
