porting a under the seat box????

Ok Pioneer sub says I can port a 1.0 cubic foot box so I am going to port it out the front .. with PVC..

Sub is firing down , Port out the front 3 inch dia.. 6inches long ... (PVC ) I havent drilled the port yet ..

Box Dia.. 25 wide x 13 deep by 9 front height and 6 back height , Seat lifted ..

Using the port calc , tuning will be at about 47 hz..

Or should I just leave it Sealed ????

build a bigger box or leave it sealed.

47Hz is too high for a daily setup

Mod the old box

Well since I am building a better looking box I thought why not play with some ports and the calc. just to see what would happen... Ok First test I used the manufact. Specs for a 1.0 cubic foot box at 3 inches round PVC X 6 inches long.. Not to bad but only 48 hz according to the port calc.. Ok so then I tried 6.5 inches longand got about 46.6 hz and it sounded a little better..So then I tried 7 inches long 45.5hz and it sounded great...but since this is a test I went extreme and tried 8 inches and about 43hz and it sounded real real good ,, I went to 9 inches and got about 41 hz and the sub sounded a little fuzzy .. So I liqued nailed the 8 inch into the box and it is drying as I type... So at 43 hz this little pioneer pounds its butt off... Now to make it somewhat not so ugly I angled the port and crafted the liqued nails smooth all aroung the port and it will be painted black in about a day once the liqued nails dries ... And Yep I am going to take pictures ..

You want to know why people buy prefab boxes ????? HUH HUH !!! because they are a pain in the big ole freakin A double S ..... to build.. Well as luck would have it I installed the enclosure terminal cup and oh crap no solder .. what was I thinking so I guess I will work on it somemore tommorrow... Oh by the way When I took the sub out of the box it had this kind of electrical smell but its not blown it just smelled funny is that normal??

Oh and ignore the long peice of cheap wire , I used it to hang the box up while I was painting the rubberized spray... I have 10 guage monster cable wire for the sub...

Ok the project for tommorrow is dowel rod for the feet of the box, then finish trimming and sanding , re prime the box , then apply a few coats of black liner paint ... This box is getting real heavy , but it is sealed tighter than an ants butt cheeks..

Just an observation but that box looks like it's made from particle board. Is it?

You may consider rebuilding it later down the road using MDF. Particle board is not dense enough to allow the sub to perform well. It's like using a balloon as a box. Yes it does work but you loosing performance.

Paint the inside of the box to protect it from moisture other wise it will swell up and be worthless.

Loose the weatherstrip it's not going to stay put. If your sub is leaking around the basket you can take some silicone sealant and put bead around the basket. You can also cut a new ring or order one online if you hole suffers from jigsawastraus.
