The inside and ouside of the box have four coats of rubberized spray undercoating... the board Looks more like MDF I got it from Lowes 3/4 inch for 20 bucks for a 4x8 sheet ... It could be looking like Particle boardx because it had so much undercoating and primer on it..I did nt know the diff between particle board and MDF.. But afte googling it it looks more like it was MDF.. Sorry for being wood ignorant...
Well I got the gains set on the pioneer amps and the coustic amp, I took it to Pro Audio and had it set with a oscilloscope
Noe everything sounds much better my sub amp was a little to low and the 2 pioneer amps for the front and rear speakers was to high.... I aint touching a thing .. Excepte the stereo remote control... sub amp is set to 80 hz, NO bass boost ,, crossover on HU set at 63hz +3.. HPF pn HU set at 100 hz for front and 80 hz rear.. and my new pioneer tweets will make your head ring.. I am happy... Now on to saving up for my exhaust system...

Ok this is the sub specs.. Now the sheet with the sub say port length for my size box 6.5 to 7 inches and a diameter of 3 inches.. When I check the port calc I get 43 hz .. Now the guy that set my amp put my sub amp at between 80-120 hz and my HU sub control at 63hz +3.. It sonds great until I hit a really really low note.. I get a very little flutter out of the port.. I guess my ? is how can pioneer give you a specific port length and say the sub can reproduce as low as 20 hz .. but when run thru a port calc you come up by using their specs 43hz ????

Been playing with the port calc ... If I would have not followed the reco...of pioneer and gone about 1 inch longer on the port I could have droped to about 40hz instead of 43hz is that a real noticable difference.. Also what the heck my amp was tuned to between 80hz and 120 hz , should it not be at about 50 or so ??? They guy that tuned this thing must not have got it right.. Also I have been reading about subsonic filters , my amp does not have this , is this a needed thing for ported subs ??

good luck, super glue I think is too brittle. 2 part epoxy is what the re-cone guys recommend. You might want to visit these website when you start doing off the wall projects like this.

Yep on the super glue.. It played a few seconds and no problems but it will probably come lose.. The sony sub id hard to get th the spyder because it has a Dual looking spyder ...But if worse comes to worse I will cut the surround and try to rebuild the whole thing ... But at a low volume it will be a good test sub.. I already have a 12 inch yamaha powered sub on my pioneer surround but I am going to try a project that I saw online where they are building these subs out of sonotube , I also have a 100 watt sub amp out of an old 10 inch yamaha enclosure that I will use ... I will check the sites out thanks ...

Question There is a question in all this somewhere..

Ok last attempt on the ported box to get a little lower .. Being that I have 13 inches to play with and my port is only a 7 inches long right now hitting about 47hz so I am going to put a collar on it which will add about 3 inches to the port length which will put the port only 3 inches off the back wall of the enclosure.. However it will bring the box down to about 43hz which is a little better... Also after using the box design calculator and figuring what type of enclosure is best I am way under 50 on the factor which really calls for a sealed box.. I just cant understand why Pioneer would say only to port a 1.0 cubic foot box at 7 inches long by 3 inch dia... when they know thats only 47hz when the actual sub is rated from 20hz to 110hz (-20db) It just doesn't make since????

Port Extended

Ok I add 3 inches to the port by addin a coupling Now the port is 10 inches long by 3 inch dia.. It is now tuned to 39hz.. It sound a lot better .. Now I have decided to add another sub..under the small seat.. It will be a 2 box design one box will have cut outs for the seat legs .. the only prob I have with prefab boxes is that they dont have enough depth for the pioneer subs.. So here we go again.. My wife says it sounds great , but I just cant be happy until I get the sound just like I want it..
