'01 Screw: Rear speakers same as front?
I thought I read a while back that the fronts were 2-way and the rears were "regular" (whatever that means). Any of you who have replaced the door speakers: Are the front door speakers the same or different as the rears, and what are they?
Thanks in advance

Yes, my friend. They're the same, tired, thin, wheezy, indifferently made "regular" speakers that are in the front. <sigh> In addition to the plastic of the grille in the door panel, the speakers also have a thick plastic grille covering them. Permanently attached. The rear spkrs are attached to a riser plate. I replaced my front stage with 5.25-ROUND components, and 6.5 ROUND coax in rear, both on custom plates in the original openings.
In retrospect, I should've just replaced my rear speakers with a good pair of tweeters for some added cab brightness and depth. Compared to my front stage, even faded to the rear a bit, I can't even tell I have speakers back there. Just my nickel.

Hey Sundog7
From reading older posts, you and I seem to have a similar past!
I'm wondering, what lead you to choose the Blaupunkt Munchen?
What other hu's did you consider?
Would you buy it again or buy a different hu?
Are you amping just the front door speakers or front and rear door speakers?
Thanks in advance.

I chose the Blau for several reasons. First, I'm a little older that most here (My first ever LP purchase was Hendrix "Are You Experienced"........when it first came out!).....So, I find all the bells and whistles seen on todays HU's very fussy. Like a Pinball game in my dash. I wanted a HU that was simple and straightforward......without the dolphins swimming around. That model Blau offered it, with a nice little wireless remote I could put on my steering wheel. Plus, it had very good specs and was "expandable".
Doing it over again, i'd instead take my second choice. For all its strengths, the Blau "Munchen" -- and, perhaps, all HU's that have an LCD TV-type panel -- display is HORRIBLE in daytime. It's virtually invisible. It has a "Tilt" setting, but nothing tilts....It's just a contrast control. Utterly Worthless. At night, it's fine.
I was also looking at the Nakamichi FZ45, Alpine (I forget the model) and one of the Rockford Fosgate units. I took a hard look at some of the better Kenwood's, but $$ for $$, I thought the Alpine had a few nicer features. Doing it over again, I'd try to find a good deal on the Nak. Failing that, I'd go with an Alpine.
My RF amp powers my JLAudio stealthbox in my center console. The Kicker amp powers my front stage. My HU juices my rear speakers. I have been very pleased with my console stealthbox and my front stage. Excellent, VERY clean sound. Bright. Distinct. Literally like being at the music hall. Stevie Ray sounds like he's right there!!
I would suggest to you that quality is more relevant than size. I would pit my front components against almost any 6.5-in coax or 6X9 triax out there. The volume I can crank them to, and level of sound quality is absolutely extraordinary........and they are only the "Motosport" line, not the more expensive (and muy Primo Excellente) "Hex" line made by DiamondAudio. I would save and chose the very best components possible. Certainly there are others out there. Once you listen to those Diamond's tho', you'd be hooked.
Good luck on your search. It's a lot of fun.
BTW, I grew up in Cleveland. What part of Ohio you from?

I'm originally from New York and Baltimore, but have spent the last 15 years here in Columbus OH. The local car audio shops leave much to be desired. Can't find any that carry Nak. Also can't find any local Diamond dealers. I guess I could mail order it and then have them install.
