Post Need help on which speakers to choose

I have a '99 SuperCab with stock speakers and a top of the line Alpine CD unit. First off, I only listen to "Hard Rock" mainly blistering guitar leads like Yngwie Malmsteen and similar axe gods. Based on that, what kind of speakers should I go with? I do want bass but I do not want THUMP. Any recommendation on speakers and amps are greatly appreciated. THANKS

After some mods I have to do first I will replace the OEM speakers with three way's. Not sure what brand I will be getting but maybe Pioneer's. Depending on how they sound I will decide if I will get an 50-75watts four channel amp. I listen to different styles of music including Joe Satriani, Accept, Ozzy, AC/DC.... on the hard side, so if I need more punch I will be getting a sub.

I would suggest a pair component speakers for the front. Either 5.25's or 6.5's, fabricate your own mounting plate for the woofers, and place the tweeters whereever you would like. Once you get your highs out from that door panel, you will be amazed at the difference in sound.

Check out my link below for 2 pics of what I did.

black 97' x-cab 4x4, 5 speed 4.6, black westin nerf bars, pilot ground searchers, borla SS split rear exhaust, K&N genII, bosch +4 plugs, flexalite electric fan, v-tech oval side window covers, IAS shocks

premier 720, pioneer 6cd changer, 12 premier sub, premier componets, 2 soso amps

still to come: new spark plug wires, new rims and tires, maybe a supercharger eventually.

3 ways are okay but components are much better. I would put them in my truck if I could afford it. Unfortunately I'm on a budget and had to settle for Polk 3 ways. Not bad but not as good as a component.

97 F-150 S/C 4x4 ORP XLT 4.6 K&N , Flowmaster w/dual tailpipes, Bosch+4 plugs,Ford 9mm wires,Superchip.Patriot fiberglass toneau cover, Westin chrome step bars. Rear seat lift 4".
Kenwood 4011 stereo, USAcoustics 2150 amp, , 2 10" IDQ DVC's, and Polk Dx7 5x7/6x8 3 ways in the front doors.

FUTURE PERFORMANCE MODS:
Edlebrock shocks, Airaid, and slotted rotors.

OTHER FUTURE MODS:
Ram Air hood w/functional ram air, suspension lift, 17" polished wheels, 35" tires, and sunroof.

I don't know what your budget is but you can pick up a pair of tweeters for as little as $20.00 and make a bigger improvement than replacing with coaxial speakers.
Even most low end components systems will beat a lot of coax speakers costing the same $$$
www.partsexpress.com and www.mcmelectonics.com both have "budget" component sets
I had a set of these in my old Nissan and they sounded very good for the $65.00 I paid for them.
You dont have to spend a lot of $$$$ to get into components.
Be sure to mount the tweeter in a good location, this will make or break a components set.
