I need help choosing speakers for new system. lend me your opinions!

Okay, I'll admit, I'm a JL fan. There I admitted it, its the first step. i want to branch out a little and see if i can get a better speaker for the money. I don't really have any experience with other brands and what they sound like. My past speakers have been, alpine, Polk audio, and total mobile audio. all of these seemed to distort when i would turn it up. That really annoys me. so bass distortion is my biggest concern i guess, and i dont like harsh tweeters.

I am going to sound deaden the doors pretty extensively.

I listen to mostly rap and the rest is classic rock and country.

I already bought an alpine MDR-F250, it is 40x4 @4ohms, i kinda wish i woulda waited and got a more powerful amp but it was a good deal i couldn't pass up ($75 only taken out of the box once). if need be i can bridge it and leave rear speakers powered from head unit (if thats an option).

my price range is under $200 for one set. (ebay deals are definitely acceptable)

I will be getting 2 10's in a fox acoustic box (i have to decide on those subs too (i am open to suggestions for subs too )).

I have done tons of research and i keep falling back to JL XR 6.5" components, (most due to name and low rms) i found some on ebay for $140 shipped.

I really appreciate any input you guys have. and thanks in advance, Tres

they look like very exceptional speakers, but unfortunately pretty far outta my price range. would you recommend the next level down pioneer premiers? i think they are TS-D1 or TS-D7. they are in the $110 price range

what about:
Alpine type X 6.5" components- $180
Diamond Audio D661- $200
MB Quart RSI 216- $145
Pioneer Premier TS-D720C- $140

these all seem to be good speakers.. but I still don't know which ones to get. which ones would yall choose if you had to buy new front speakers?

Are you stuck on 6 1/2s? I have these http://cgi.ebay.com/Diamond-Audio-M5...lenotsupported and love em. I had him switch to silk dome tweets in place of the aluminum. Running those with a ported stealthbox. Sounds excellent. I'm not going to bleed any ears but that is not what I was after. I was after sound quality and low and moderate volumes and achieved it with this setup. My backs are running off the HU. Don't need em even when people ride back there.

Could you explain how exactly to bridge my amp?
its a 4 channel alpine MDR-F250

I am interested in the ID's but i would probably just go ahead and buy them new, because woofersetc.com has them for $180

and as far as the rear speakers go, i will probably put in like JL TR's just so ppl in the rear seats can hear plenty of music

Rear speakers pull the sound stage behind you. Ideally you want all sound in front of you, and not be able to localize the subwoofer.

The owners manual should tell you how to properly bridge your amplifier.

mSall, Could you elaborate on this point. I'm having a little trouble understanding it.

When you turn it way up and your amp cannot put out more power, it will start to clip the signal, distorting the speakers. Oftentimes, speakers can take more power than they are rated, so it is much better to have more power on tap than too little power. This will also make it so your amplifiers dont have to work as hard, extending their lifetime. That doesn't mean that all speakers can take loads of power though, you need to be careful.

Bridging your current 4ch amp will give you the same result...
