I agree, they sound incredible. I'm glad you decided to go with the MDF in the panels, looks good and I'm sure it sounds much better. I keep forgetting to upload my pics. Will do when I get home in the AM.

i just went with that. i really didnt want to cut the door panel, and if u think about that u take the chance of damaging the speaker when removing door panel. then if there is a gap between the panel and door mounted baffle the panel could rattle, to me this option suited my interests best, i didnt use clay, kicked it around, then just decided to use black silicone to seal baffle to panel, i have no air bypassing so that is all that matters...

so do you have to cut the door panel a small amount in order to fit the baffle in there?

My installer had to cut my door panel in order to get my Hertz to fit. Its not much and you can't see it so it doesn't bother me.

JJDH:
They look great. Are they 5.25 or 6.5?

so is the baffle secured to the plastic door panel with some self tapping screws and then you just cut the middle out for the speaker to fit in?

There is a 5"x7"/6'x8" cut out in the panel already. SO, if you make a template to bit, you don't have to mod the door panel. In my case, the 6.5" mid was bigger then the opening, to the top and bottom had to be trimmed.

For you guys that are attaching it straight to the plastic door card using baffles, i suggest you get some deadener on the backside of that door card or else they will buzz with high power to those mids.

i put deadener back there the prs is a 6.75, oversized 6.5.. i had to push it in there. it flexed the plastic a bit, nice and snug... no trimming here. the baffle i just traced the stock speaker and dotted the holes, cut it a little big, trimmed to snug fit, used some 1-3/4 screws back in factory holes to secure, really it just takes place of the factory speaker

Itd be much better to mount to door skin with deadener (and the holes covered).

And my MW162 murders those PRS's. But it is still a nice set.

nice. always trying to p i s s in the rice crispies...lol all door holes are sealed. the door skin idea is more popular, i mulled it over, when u trim the door panel if it isnt sealed back to door skin, wouldnt the sound go up behind the panel? then if u only trim enough off panel to still touch door skin it seemed like a pita to put panel on without hitting or scraping the surround. like i mentioned before, if it dont work out, the option to change is always there. so far so good, forget the system...want to run em?

I used acoustic foam to insulate any sound that could possibly escape behind the door card. Worked like a charm.

The reason why I didnt mount mine to the door skin is because I had a hard enough time getting the panel back on without the speaker. Add another inch or two and it would be pure hell, all the while tearing my speaker up. I'm quite pleased with mine in the panel.
