Question Just a little more help...then pics/vids.

Ok....got everything in and had guy actually ran the wire in behind the Main Fuse Box instead of underneath since I told him I amm off road alot.

2 serious quesitons for help.....

1. He wants to put polyfill in the box as he says it will help to fool the subs into thinking there is more airspace as it slows the sound down??? Eh?

2. The PDX amp has the same power output whether the subs are wired at 4 or 2 ohms according to Alpine. Will the subs themselves sound better if wired at 2 instead of 4 as he currently has them????

thanx in advance as always....

Wiring your subs: Dual Voice Coils

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With multi-driver sub systems, which often feature dual voice coils (DVC) on each driver, the level of wiring complexity can be enough to turn-off even the most adventurous of car audio do-it-yourselfers. Fear not though, for we have compiled wiring diagrams of several configurations for dual voice coil (DVC) drivers.

Please note that when wiring multiple drivers it is recommended that series connections between drivers be avoided at all costs. This does not include series connections made between voice coils on the same driver. .

Additionally, if you have an idea for a wiring configuration and you do not see it here, chances are you should re-think its implementation (in other words, don't do it). You will more than likely find that the results will be less than optimal.

1 DVC driver with Voice Coils in Series
Connecting the two voice coils of the driver in series (+ to -) will result in the following impedances:
Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofer: 12 Ohms
Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofer: 8 Ohms
Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 4 Ohms
Dual-1.5 Ohm Subwoofer: 3 Ohms
1 DVC driver with Voice Coils in Parallel
Connecting the two voice coils of the driver in parallel (+ to +, - to -) will result in the following impedances:
Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofer: 3 Ohms
Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofer: 2 Ohms
Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 1 Ohms
Dual-1.5 Ohm Subwoofer: 0.75 Ohm

2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Series / Parallel
Connecting the two voice coils of each driver in series (+ to -) and the drivers themselves in parallel (+ to +, etc.) will result in the following impedances:
Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofers: 6 Ohms
Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofer: 4 Ohms
Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 2 Ohms
Dual-1.5 Ohm Subwoofer: 1.5 Ohms

2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Parallel / Parallel
Connecting the voice coils of each driver in parallel (+ to +, - to -) and the drivers themselves in parallel (+ to +, etc.) will result in the following impedances:
Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofers: 1.5 Ohms
Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofers: 1 Ohm
Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofers: 0.5 Ohm
Dual-1.5 Ohm Subwoofer: 0.38 Ohms

It is the Alpine PDX 1000.1 it onlt lists power ratings for 2 or 4 ohms...

Cool...thax guys. I will let him polyfill it and leave the wiring alone. Hea said it didnt matter since with the PDX amps the power is the same, just wanted to run it by you guys first.

Will post up some reviews tomorrow. Was letting it do the break in period suggest by RF before really tuning and getting into it. Tweakin it tomorrow.

Thanx again.

Thumbs up

So..the Bass is real mean. I am audio retarded so excuse my terms. When it hits any of the Bass levels it is very HARD, quick, and clean.

There is not alot of that long and drawn out bass like I had with my DC sound lab Lvl 2 10" sub. I wish I could have had 2 of those and I would be POUNDING! Maybr a lvl 3 12" in the console.

I have not made it down to have it polyfilled like he suggested or tuned up. The gain is not even half way but with the volume about 70-80%up one most rap songs it is just stupid.

Some NIN came on next and it was all over. Will come back on after I get it tuned up.

Thanx

I run one Punch 12" with an Alpine amp. Best Buy reccommended Alpine even though I was using a Fosgate speaker. Had it for 2 days and blew the speaker. Turns out it was my fault, pushed it too hard. They replaced it no problems. Had it now for almost 2 yrs with no problems. Sounds good too.

Honestly, im not sure.
I read in Crutchfield magazine to turn the amp all the way down, then set my radio to the loudest level that i will ever use, then turn the amp up three quarters power, to prevent blowing the speaker. Seems to work.
