Sub box port?

Im gonna be building a sub box for a Kicker L7 12" for my truck here shortly and i want to port it but dont think ill be able to make a slot port. Instead i think im gonna do a port tube(s) but dont know which to get to make it sound good. The box measurement are gonna be 28"x16"x16", so about 3 cu ft of air. Which one of these port tubes should i get to make it sound good(By Kicker standards) and how many?

Thanks in advance,
Beto

You need to figure out what tuning frequency you want first. If you go trying to port a box without knowing what you're doing it will sound like garbage and possibly damage your speaker.

Download a program called WinISD, play around with it, and you can figure out how much port area you will need.

Its the 08 series and its the dual 4 ohm. its gonna be powered by a zx750.1.

I want a little bit of both, but more on the spl side.

First we need to know the box volume and what frequency you want to tune the box to...

I tried that program you recommended but i didnt know how to work it......The box volume is 3.042 cu ft. I dont know what frequency but i want it to pound and sound good. I guess 33hz from looking at Low's sig.

According to WinISD to tune to 33 hz you need a 4 inch diameter tube that is 7.1 inches long, and you shouldn't have any port noise.

It also shows that you'd hit 118 db, so figure in cabin gain and it should be plenty loud..

I'm not an expert on this stuff, just have spent a while ****ing around with the program.. Hope that helped you.

I never said that was an accurate number, its just what the program shows, which is a lot higher than a lot of other setups will come out to.
obviously it's not going to give you a real life figure inside a vehicle with everything else factored in.

118db is outside and there is 0 cabin gain. In a truck things will change completely.

There are reasons to why thats in my sig.... A few here know why

I run two 12's sealed with poly fill. country, rock, sound better sealed if you want **** off the neighbors boom the go ported but you will handle less power and risk port farting. my two 12's do both very well and no farting. just shake the kidneys and mirrors alot. alot depends if you want sound for you or sound for everyone else. I used to do comp car audio and sealed won me more than one comp. figure out the factory spec's or measure inside dimensions and divide by 1728 to get qft. 40 to 50 HZ is a lot better tuning freq. more music has that than 33 HZ. also remember that sealed will save you some room because ported is always bigger. run the sub parallel and the amp should see 2 ohm's ruffly. also make sure you power wire is at least 2 awg and ground the same but no longer than 18 inches. good luck
