98 XLT ... distortion in one speaker
98 XLT ... distortion in one speaker
OK, folks, I'm not much of an audio guy, so please bear with me. I've got a 98 F150 XLT with the factory original sound system. About 4 months ago, a sorta distortion sound started developing in the driver's side door speaker. And it progressively got worse.
I don't really know how to describe it well except to say that it reminds me of distortion out of an old tube-type guitar amp ... for those of you old enough to remember such a thing.
Anyway, I automatically assumed it was the speaker, but swapping it out (with a known good speaker) does not help. The distortion occurs when the vehicle is ether running or not, and it's worse when I'm listening to AM (i.e. standard news reporting ). And definitely just the one speaker.
If I just need to replace the receiver, I'm perfectly good with that. But if it's something else, I need to get it figured out.
Ideas?
Thanks,
dogfood

I loved that line when I was at CC. People would get fairly aggravated, if they caught it.
