Door speaker question

Do any of you guys know how big of a mid-bass I can run in the front door of my '99 Scab? I was thinking about going with a 7 or 8" mid-bass in the door, I just don't know if they will fit. Hoping someone has some experience with this.

Thanks!

What do you plan to run it with? Is it a 2-way or 3-way? 2-way i wouldn't go larger than 6.5"-7" mid unless you have a tweeter that can do 2500hz and an 8" thats got some serious range. 3-way = no problem though.

I dont know crap about 03 or below F150s.

I've been thinking about running it with some L1 tweets (already bought) and L3 midranges, powered by Sundown amps.

I'm still debating in my head whether or not to go to a 3-way up front. Just wondering if I could eliminate my sub-stage, I listen to mostly rock/alternative, and just run a front stage.

I would say nay to the Sundowns, they have some small surface traces of copper which IMHO are too small for the rated power (safely).

Do you have the spk in the bottom or middle of the door. If its at the bottom, I dont see any reason why either wouldnt fit. Now it will take some customization on your part but is doable. Contact 6SpdCoupe (Don), hes up in Jersey and has the ability to do more than dreamable to fit whatever. Plus, he has product knowledge that will make me look like a noob.

The speakers are near the bottom of the doors, but since I'm away at school I don't have my tools to take off the door panels and look to see what would fit.

Why does the surface traces of copper make them too small for the rated power? I'm just trying to learn, as I don't really know what you mean by that.

Its just amp design. I have seen evidence of the amp design being made not to full spec. Just small traces of copper instead of buss-like bars w/in the amp.

Thanks for the info Low, I sent Don a PM over at DIYMA but do you guys have any suggestions for a 6.5 - 7" midbass to be used in my doors?

Are you serious with that?

Not to be yet another little-know internet off-brand nuthugger (especially of Sundown or Fi - those are the worst cases) but I'm pretty sure Sundown/Jacob know what they're doing with their products, especially amps. I have yet to see a Sundown amp that can't run at voltages well above and below their rated voltage, nor have I seen one that didn't put out well over rated power at incredibly low distortion levels. There may be some "trace"of copper (don't know where you got that information) but it sure as chit doesn't impede performance.

The only problem I personally have with their products is the price - that's just because I'm a bit uneasy to drop that much on an amp that is more than likely going to get covered in mud.

OP - I had a gen F150 like yourself, and a 6.5 driver would fit in the stock door no problem, so long as it didn't have a tweet (coaxial) on it. For midbass, you're going to need some fiberglass skills. You can tuck a small 8 or two in not much airspace - keeping with the Sundown products, the E8s are fantastic small sealed drivers.
