Help with sub box material!!!

Hey all, went out last night to buy my box material and there is no place within 50 miles that has 1" MDF. I need 1" thich for the mounting plate. In fact, I couldn't find anything raw in 1". What do I use? Can I scew and glue two pieces of 1/2 together? What about a 1" pine cutting board? Its strips glued together, but would it hold up? Any help would be great! Thanks

why do you need 1" , 3/4" is usually strong enough, but yes you can glue and screw 2 1/2" boards

Don't use pine...way too soft. Why do you have to use 1" for the mounting plate...why not 3/4"? All of the sub boxes I've ever made were 3/4" and they were fine.

Unless you've got an absurd setup here that would require 1 inch (even then a double 3/4 baffle and bracing is usually enough for 4-5k), well glued 2 x 1/2 inch would work just fine.

Jl Audio recommends no smaller than a 3/4 box with 1" min mounting plate for the w7 series subs.

So, make the box out of 3/4 and glue 2 pieces together for the mounting plate.

Stop hating. NOW

Pick up a piece of 3/4" Birch. It will hold EXTREMELY well.

Actually its because W7s are pretty heavy, and have an out-of-the-ordinary mounting procedure.

Unfortunatly, I don't have the space to double up. That would cost me 12% of my box space. Who would carry the birtch? Would be in the area of 11 3/4 x 11 1/2.

Don't double up the entire side of the box, just where the speaker mounts. Much like the attached pic, but round of course. Glue it together and you're good to go.

That won't help, it looks like the area the weight is distributed would not change with those rings (if they even make them in the correct size), it might even be worse.

I'm not saying use those exact rings. I'm saying to make something similar out of 3/4" MDF to use as a mounting plate and glue it to the box. It most certainly will not be worse than only having a 3/4" plate. I've seen this procedure done countless times on boxes with 15" subs.
