Component Questions

Hey folks, I have a couple of questions and thoughts for you. I'm starting to get my stuff together for my install and I'm working out my front components. First, let me ask your thoughts on the best components for under $300?

Also, in the sets that have both a 5x7 and a 6 1/2 mid, do they sound different? I was looking at both the xr and c5 JL audio sets and they offer both. Has anyone heard both in action and can compare?

Thanks!
Ryan

I had the XRs in my Ranger and loved them. I cant wait till I get them in the F150. I liked them more than the Diamon M6s in my Civic.

Actually, I have strayed from JL's components. I decided a while back, I wasnt going to follow trends and be a JL *****.

So, no I have not made it to hear them.

LOL, I understand Red. That's another reason I'm looking hard at the ID component sets as well. The XRs can be had fairly cheap right now since they're discontinued.

I'd love to find places to listen to all these components I'm considering but I don't think it will happen. I guess that's one cool thing about this hobby, we can try stuff and if we don't like it we go get more/different stuff!

IMO the C5's are a tad better than the XR's, but the XR's can be had cheap now online. The ZR's are a joke for the price tag. What amp will you be using to power whatever set you choose?

I'm not 100% sure what amp I'm going with, but I am considering doing an active setup. A couple of amps that I've found that I would consider would be a JL 300/4v2, the new soundstream Rubicon 600.4, etc. I'm still looking for amps, but I'd like to keep it under 300 for an amp. The biggest thing is finding one with on board crossovers that go high enough to run the tweeters. As for separates, I've looked at so many I've lost track. I'm also looking at ID as well.
