Beginner help with sound systems

Hi guys I joined here a while back and haven't really posted, but I just got my truck, its an 06 fx4 supercab. Right now I have 2000 that I want to spend and since I didn't make my goal for a lift yet, I figured why not start looking for a sub...I know NOTHING about sound systems.. Heres what I got so far but theres only so much that I can pick through before I get tired of reading. I want to be loud, so I was thinking a 1 or two 12 inch subs, maybe kicker L5's?? I need an amp..don't know what size/brand. I need a head unit, don't know what brand...I was thinking something like the alpine I've seen that hooks to your ipod. I read that thread about sub boxes from that company. I know how to use woodworking tools but I was thinking 150 dollars and I have a professional job...So I need a sub, box, amp, head unit. Do I need other speakers?

Oh and I'm trying to keep it under 1000 if possible.

thats pretty broad man.
start narrowing things down.
do you want a full touchscreen?
how loud do you like your music?
how much bass do you want?
how much room are you willing to sacrifice?
are you looking more for loudness or for sound quality?
gotta get some specifics before we help you out

Ya I figured that.
I would like a touchscreen-I didn't even know where to start with head units.
I want to have alot of bass where I can just feel it hit, but I want to be able to control it.
I like to listen to my music loud, but I want a combination of what I think would be good sound quality and loudness.
I only want to give up the middle of the back seat.

The 12" square kicker that a friend has(not sure which one) sounds good to me, but I don't have alot of experience with subwoofers, compared to the two 12" subs that another friend has, the single kicker seems louder and sounds better. I don't know what kind the other ones are though, they are old and cheap.

i can tell you right now doing a touchscreen and 2 12' under 1000 is going to be difficult, you might want to think about splitting up the two projects
for subs. i would definitely stay away from kicker, as everyone on this site will tell you
start searching around, there are alot of great brands out there for great prices

also, know that the box build has more to deal with how good/loud the sub sounds
2 12's have more cone area than a 15, but a 15 in the perfect ported box will be louder than the 12's in a prefab (most likely)
just make sure you have enough room for what you want

So would I be better off going with a single 12" and a good box?
