Saleen Sub enclosure
I installed my Salleen Rockford Sub along with new front door speakers and and a small amp for those but ran into a problem with the Rockford Sub. This wiring harness they supply for the sub gets it's input from the front speakers so there is no fader control at all. I didnt realized this, just assumed it would run off the rear channel. I dont know why rockford would design it this way. I hate to butcher up the neat wiring they sent with it but without a fader this isnt gonna work the way I want it to. Has anyone noticed this about their setups or is mine a factory mistake? It's using the gray-gray/black and white-white black wires.
I modified the wiring harness that came with the sub so that it runs off the back channel instead. It makes a big difference. I'm still not sure why saleen/rockford designed it to run off the front channel. I think that with the stock front speakers it sounds ok this way but with amplified aftermarket speakers with no fader, volume turned halfway up, the front speakers are screaming but the sub volume is so low that it doesn't match the front. With the fader I was able to fade more signal to the back so that the base is more in proportion with the front.

I did email Rockford yesterday and asked why it was run off the front channel and they replied and informed me that they only supply the equipment for Saleen's design and that Saleen makes the wiring harness for it. They asked that I contact Saleen about my question. I'm not going to email them though since I fixed the problem. Saleen knows their stuff so they probably did it that way for a reason but for my setup it's better the way it is now after changing it to the rear channel.

For the price that me along with others bought this for I can't complain. I just wanted more bass than what a speaker alone could put out without having to mess with amps and wiring. I'm happy with how it sounds and I am just running it off of the stock headunit now.
If you look at the part of the T harness with the white plastic 4 pronged plug that taps into the main harness you'll see it taps the gray and white wires of the front channel
gray-right front positive
gray/black-Right front negative
white-left front positive
white/black-left front negative
What I did was cut this off but leave enough wire to reatach later. After cutting off the 4 pronged connector wires I reatached the remaining wires to each other, same color to color, that parts easy. The wires were a little shorter than the rest after cutting away that section so I used some short pieces of wire to lengthen them to the same length as the other wires.
Make sure you dont get the wires mixed up on the 4 pronged connecor you cut off. 4 wires go one way, 4 the other. Now you have to splice these wires from this into the green and violet wires which are the rear channels.
gray attaches to violet-right rear positive
gray/black attaches to violet/black-right rear negative
white attaches to green-left rear positive

It took me a couple hours because I soldered and shrink tubed everything but it shouldn't take that long if you use butte connectors. You might want to use some temporary way of splicing wires and then try it out before you solder or crimp anything since you dont have much wire to work with.

Has anyone disconnected their rear speakers and noticed more output from the sub? Since the speaker channels are split with the sub input wire tapping into them I wonder if the signal going into the amp would be higher and produce more power from the amp to the sub if the input from the radio wasn't split. Just a thought.. I'll probably try this.
Wow , Since I posted this back in october. I cant believe how many of you guys have bought this sub . And, Im glad to hear you like it as well . This thing is one of the best mods ever.
I also emailed him and they said they were out and will not get anymore. Anybody knows any other place to get one.
