Can kitty hair type body filler be used to strengthen the fiberglass? Almost like a layer of mat?

Fiberglassing is very time consuming.

You shouldn't use kitty hair to strengthen the box, you should be using fiberglass mat. Kitty hair is much more expensive than mat and resin.

You're probably looking for a thickness of about 3/8 to 1/2"... cut the mat into 8x8" pieces (or maybe even larger) and do one piece at a time, overlap each piece, dont always let the grain of the mat run in the same direction. Once you get it done, do it again. Don't mix more resin than you can use in 20 minutes, or else you'll end up with wasted resin.
