best subs?

I have a 1997 ext cab f150. I want to put some subs in there but i dont want to loose my back seat. what is the best subs to put under the back seat? I want it to shake my whole truck but i want it to sound good. I know there is ways of getting this by removing the back seat but i dont want to do that. what would yall suggest? Thanks for any ideas.

Pioneer and a few other companys make 'slim' style subwoofers that are only a few inches deep. JL is coming out with a new one, as is SI, anybodys guess as to how good those are since they arent out yet though.

Even with a seat lift, there isnt a whole lot of room under the 97-99 F150 Scabs.

In all honesty, without a seat lift, some creativity, and probably some fiberglass work, its going to be hard to find something that will 'shake the whole truck'.

agreed, i had 2 10s in my truck (same model), but even to make that fit i had to lift up the driverside rear seat.
if you are willing to lift up that seat, there is plenty of room to do some stuff: 2 12's, a 15, pretty much whatever you want

i have heard of a "seat lift" but i am not sure how safe that is or exactly how to do it. would it cause the seat to become disconected during a wreck or anything? what would you use to get a seat lift and how high is a reasonable amount to lift it? Thanks

Pioneer's flat subwoofers sound pretty good. As does the Kenwood flat subs. I actually prefer the Kenwoods, but only slightly. Kenwoods only come in 12's and the Pioneers come in 8's, 10's and 12's.

The Rockford Fosgate P3 shallow subs have not impressed me in the slightest.

As mentioned, JL Audio has some coming out, and if they hold true to most JL subs, they should sound good, but will likely be a tad overpriced.

i think by keeping the back seat i wont be able to shake the truck. but what about a seat lift? is that a good way to fit a bigger box?

******, I guess Im not sure exactly when they changed the seat styles. I though it was between the 99-00 models, maybe it was halfway through the 99 year model though.
I guess I was just goin off of my old 99 which had the same style back seat as any 97 or 98 Id seen, and a different style than a friends 00.

Lots of people make their own seat lift, but a lot of people also buy premade kits, specifically from LMI welding. They usually lift the seat about 2.5 inches. As far as saftey, I dont believe they would be any worse than stock unless it was a homemade hack job. The LMI kits look to be pretty good quality just of what I see/hear of them, I havent used one myself (more of a DIYer here).

No sorry, I didnt do a seat lift on my 99, I replaced the whole seat with a box instead.

My buddy did a lift on his 00, but I dont know I would be able to get any pics of it.

There are only two types of seats in these Scabs...the early style, where the bottom flips forward and makes into a flat metal platform, and the later style where the seat bottoms flip up and back, against the seat back.

The earlier style seats are far easier to make a lift for.

oh. yea i thought about doing that and replaceing the whole seat but i want a seat in the back.

hmmm...ok well my dads flips forward and makes a metal platform. so i guess it is the same. it is dark so i didnt get a good look at it but i will try and figure it out tomorrow. but do you just unbolt the seats from the floor and put a spacer between the floor and the seat?
