I need a setup
I need a setup
Hey Everybody,
First of all I want to thank everybody on this forum for the help they have given me thus far. I am learning a lot and my system is finally installed and working but I need a little setup advice if you don't mind. Just a baseline setup to get me close would be greatly appreciated.
So here's what I have right now in my 1994 Volkswagen Jetta:
Head Unit: JVC KD-PDR80 20w RMS 50w Peak x 4 @ 4 Ohms
Front Speakers: Alpine Type-S SPS-600 6.5" 80w RMS 240w Peak
Rear Speakers: Stock Volkswagen 6.5"
Subwoofers/Enclosure: Two 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch HE RFP4812's. 200w RMS, 400w peak @ 8 Ohms. Sealed Bassworx enclosure.

Amplifier: Alpine V-Power MRP-M650 Mono, 400w RMS x 1 at 4 Ohms

Wire: Knukonceptz 8GA CCA power and ground cable, Knukonceptz RCA's, 14 Ga oxygen-free copper speaker wire from the amp to the box, 10 Ga in the box. The way they are wired right now is kind of suspect - speaker wire from the amp to the left sub teminals, then another speaker wire run from there to the other side. This is what my friend told me to do, is this correct at all?
So it's all together and running, and yes I am going to clean up the wiring once I am sure it's all done correctly (I wanted to ask about wiring two subs to one channel). The amp is mounted on the box for now because there really isn't anywhere else, I might mount it to the rear deck once my windows are tinted. Overall it sounds pretty good, the bass hits very hard and clear. Right now I am using the one of the ****ty canned JVC EQ's, "Hip Hop" I think
The amp was "fine tuned" by the guy at the place where I bought the amp, I installed it in the parking lot so he could do that...but he just put all three settings right in the middle. Gain, Bass + and Freq. or whatever is all pointed straight up and down. I didn't notice until I got home and I just laughed. Fine tuned, no doubt... Sooo I need a setup of some kind ... I listen to rap mostly and it sounds pretty good as-is, but my door speakers are struggling to keep up. I have the balance pretty much 80/20 right now front/rear.
I think the front speakers are definitely underpowered. Is there any way I can ditch the rear speakers and "bridge" the front and rear channels together to give the fronts more power? I really don't have the money to amp them right now and even if I did I don't want to be spending all kinds of money on this car. The subs, box and amp were all bought for under $300 wired and the head unit was like another $100 so it's definitely on-the-cheap.
Any baseline setups for me guys? Any other advice/pointers/telling me I "fail" (at least I didn't mount 6x9's to my box
)? Thanks a lot!

2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Parallel / Parallel
Connecting the voice coils of each driver in parallel (+ to +, - to -) and the drivers themselves in parallel (+ to +, etc.) will result in the following impedances:
Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofers: 1.5 Ohms
Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofers: 1 Ohm
Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofers: 0.5 Ohm
Dual-1.5 Ohm Subwoofer: 0.38 Ohms

Subs - Parallel wire them ++ & --. Doesnt matter if its wired inside or out...
Spks - I have never bridged a JVC deck, so I dont know if its cool with it or not. You can try and find out... But I would prolly err against it. Get a small amp for the front components.
