after a lot of wasted time looking around for my answer, I have decided to ask the professionals
I'm looking at getting a box & sub to put under the rear seat of my supercrew. Here are my questions...
-Where to get the box? I see a lot of boxes on ebay, all requiring seat lifts. I dont want to do a seat lift. Is there one that does not take up the entire width of the cab?
-What is the max size sub I can put in box? I am looking somewhere along the lines of a JL Audio 10w3 (Just to give you an idea of the amount of bump I'm looking for... does not have to be that particular sub, open to suggestions). If a 10 will not fit without a seat lift, then I will go with two 8's.
-What other sub/amp combo's do you suggest? I've had the JL 10w3 paired with the JL 250w amp before. It sounded good to me, but the amp overheated quickly, so i need more juice than that, or an amp with fans i suppose... I've also had 2 JL 12w3's on a RF amp and it was too much for me. I'm not looking for something to blow my 3 year old's carseat out...
thanks in advance

alot of people here suggest supercrewsound.com, but i personally dont have a screw so i havent looked there.
size of the sub totally depends on the box. if you are looking for the best possible sound quality and are planning on buying a prefab box, then you need to find out the exact size of the box, then find a sub that matches it as best as possible. or you can look into building your own box...its definitely not as difficult as it may seem.
i always suggest alpine amps, they have always been good to me and are significantly cheaper than JL.

supercrewsound.com sells box for supercab, screws, and regcabs...
I'd take a look at Image Dynamics 10" subwoofers. Preferably the IDQ v.2 and ID v.3 subwoofers. Umatched sound quality that will fit under the seat ad wont destroy your wallet.

Don't get a box off ebay. I did that for ships and giggles for a pair of 10's and it didn't work. I tried putting the subs in the box and the box advertised mounting depth was about 3/4" off. If you do install a seat lift the max mounting depth using 3/4 MDF box will be around 7" deep. You'll be close to 2.5cf of airspace as well, but that's depending on your box design. Supercrewsound is a good choice.
I don't suggest JL amps. They might be solid but I don't like buying a amp that puts out a constant power rating across any ohm load.
The golden question is- how much cash are you going to drop on this project?

You will able two fit two 8s or one 10 under the larger portion of the back seat easy enough. I havent had any experience with a supercrewsound box myself, but everyone seems to love them, so just from that I would suggest checking them out.
A single 10 will most likely cost less than a pair of 8s if your looking to save some cash. Add a small amp on the back wall and you are ready to rock.
Like Impact said though, how much are you looking to spend?

thanks for all of the help...
to be honest, i wasnt looking at spending more than a couple hundred dollars tops... it doesnt have to be a badass system, just some nice bump. I figured the box would run me more than the amp/sub...
actually had a lead on a jl 10w3 & 500w amp for less than $100

im running the supercrewsound.com box (uts dual 10) under my rear seat...same model screw as you have...sounds great, plenty of bass...check my sigs for specs and let me know if you have any more questions...im down in hattiesburg
yeah if you went with just a super small sealed enclosure and sub to match (maybe one of the new shallow design subs) then it shouldnt be a problem at all...you only lose the fold down function with most boxes b/c of how tall they are, they way the seat is designed in our model screw is that when you fold it forward the seat bottom drops and if there is a box in the way it cant drop enough to complete the forward motion...but ive looked at mine a few times and its only blocking it by maybe an inch or so? i didnt fool with a seat lift, it wasnt necessary in my opinion as long as you can keep the subs from hitting the floor with a decent set of rubber feet on the bottom of the box... even some prebought single ten wedge boxes would slide under the larger portion of the rear seat and probably wouldnt affect the fold down function
i custom built my box for my 2 tens sounds pretty decent...box building was fairly painless and i'm no carpentry master...i say try to build what you want for alot cheaper and then send a lil more on stereo shizz..just my .02
well i talked to my local audio shop this morning and got some info. They have a box available to hold 1 10" sub and not lose any seat function. They told me the most I could put in it is a JL 10w1 because of the depth. I asked about the new slim subs and he told me the JL would be more efficient. The mounting depth for a w1 series is 4.34"... so what other sub can I get to get a little more bump out of, or is there that has a the same mounting depth?
