Need Help, New System?
Hey guys, I just bought a 2006 F150 4x4 Supercab about a month ago. I am getting a bit annoyed with the stock system in it, just doesnt have any punch and sounds like crap. I'm not familiar with puttting a system in a truck. I used to have cars and i would always just buy a deck, then an AMP and some SUBS in a Power Wedge and throw the AMP and SUBS in my trunk. But having a truck now i am not really sure how to even begin. The Last system i had in one of my cars was an Alpine Deck, Alpine AMP, and 2 10" JL Audio subs. What can i do in this truck though? I'm not really skilled enough to cut holes or modify the truck to fit something to be honest, so if anyone can tell me what some options would be, i'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks Guys

You could put a box with 2 subs under the rear seat. If you install a seat lift, you can put larger subs. You can, also, fold up your seat and install a car style box. It all depends on how much you want.
First thing to do would be to change the head unit. Then for something simple, a single or 2 10's under the backseat would work and sound great with the right setup, as far as speakers, a normal set of 6x8's would be better than the ones you have in there... Best buy or circuit city would have a setup that would make you happy for pretty cheap. just dont go with pioneer or kenwood on the speakers... Amps, any amp really as long as you match up the rms ratings with your woofers and get a name brand amp you should be fine. Do you have any ideas for speakers, amps, or subs?

As far as Amps go i'm not really sure, again i'd probably just go with Alpine because thats really all i know when it comes to car audio, unless someone has a better suggestion.
I definetly want something thats going to fit under the backseats, without having to do any kind of modification. I also want it to look clean as well. I'm not looking for extremely loud boomy bass. I listen to metal, and rock etc etc...so i'm looking for something nice and punchy.....no rap here.
Now about the head unit, would i go about picking one out the same as i would always do for a car? Or do these trucks require certain ones? I've notice a lot of people have big ones, about the size of the stock unit. I've never really seen any of those, all i know are the small ones ( about 3inches tall give or take). And i've always had alpine when it came to head units as well.
Subs
if you want to go with JL under your seat without any modifications, 2 JL 10w1v2's will be what you will need, Personallly i have 2 JL 10's under my backseat, but they are the 10w3v3's which dont fit in boxes that you can buy. They sound great by the way.
Amps
You can't really go wrong with any alpine amps i dont think, their new pdx amps are a bit pricey but are extremely nice. Their reg amps are perfectly fine. Alpine is a good choice for amps any day.
Head Unit
Any head unit will fit in our trucks...same as a car..truck...suv...van... The smaller ones which are a single din, jsut require a dash kit to allow them to fit into the big opening from our stock radio's, no big deal. Dont skimp on the Head unit though, spend a little extra or save a little longer to get a decent one. Alpine also makes really good HU's, prob some of the best out there and the NEW 08... model pioneers (NOT older ones) are very nice as well.
I would say if alpine HU - either cda-9884 ($199 retail) or if you can get alpine's last years product, the cde-9881 (was $179 retail before the new ones came out, price may have gone down)
Pionner HU - the deh-P5000 ($190 retail) or anything better...6000, etc.
What about door speakers?

Wow HU's have gone down in price since i bought my last one, i remember having to spend about $4-500 or so for a good one. But i'll give those ones you mentioned a look.
Door speakers i'm not to sure about, i'd like some sort of mid bass speaker....maybe i should go JL's on those too? I'm not to sure.
I'll definetly stick with getting some JL subs, an Alpine amp, and and Alpine HU (maybe i'll look at that new pioneer).
For the 10W1v2's you would be perfectly fine with a prefab box from supercrewsound.com or musicmooseaudio.com or wherever, those subs dont need that much airspace at all.
My 10w3v3's are down-firing, and is in what used to be a prefab box... it was supposed to be a simple upgrade but nothing is ever easy, the entire box has pretty much been changed. Not quite sure if thats what you were wondering but you can always ask me something else....
Door speakers... I wouldn't focus that much... on speakers with excellent mid bass because you will have 2 10's for the lows, if you focus on clarity with the highs more that would be better, but dot get speakers that lack any mid bass at all, it still helps.

Thats really up to your ears, but i like JL door speakers, anything better than the tr or vr series though. XR series are very nice from what i hear, they are discontinued but you might be able to get a set from ebay, or from Low_E_Red..He has a set that he might let go, if he didn't already. Alpine speakers are nice, although i haven't really liked what i have heard that much from their new type s speakers. (not that they are bad). There are so many brands out there...ugh im to tired to name off any more. The best thing to do would be to go and listen to speakers at some of your local shops.
