Question Need audio upgrade

I have the stock shaker system with factory sub in my '05 Screw Lariat. I'd like to upgrade the front and rear speakers. Any suggestions? Will I have to remove the factory sub? Is this system internally equalized?-how will this affect any upgrades?

Yes it is internally equalized. They HP/LP is right around 80 Hz.

For replacement speakers, if just off the headunit, i'd look at alpine type S or polk db571. I highly recomend amplifying them though, they really come alive.

Great recomendation....
If amplifying, would the sub need to be removed? how would the amp get wired?

The amp's signal would come from a LOC (line out converter). A LOC is tapped into your speaker wire and creates RCA signal inputs for your amplifier.

The sub does not need to be removed.

Also, if you have the funds, i highly recommend replacing the head unit.
