I'm wondering if anyone has a powered subwoofer in their Supercab. I looking at various compact powered subs, such as the Infinity Basslink, Kenwood SW-1, Blaupunkt THb Series, etc.

Any feedack would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

 

Have you considered adding the factory Audiophile sub? I know they were offered on the Scab.

I am still planning my build, but it looks like I am going to be building a custom center console to replace the jumpseat and using the space under the rear seats for amps.

 

No, I guess I thought I would see better performance with and aftermarket sub. Good question though. Hey, what's a "jumpseat". Still learning all the lingo.

 

On my truck, the front seats are split up 40-20-40... basically bucket seats with a small seat in the middle that folds into the armrest/console thing. I never use it as a seat (since my passenger's feet would be shifting the transfer case ).

The Audiofile system is not anything like a quality aftermarket system, but it is far better than the normal system in these trucks. If space is a concern, and you want something simple, why not install something that was an option to begin with.

 

go to jl audio web site ,.they just released a shallow 13" sub jus for shallow boxes, jl audio is so much better than the other brands u named,, but u pay for what u get,, they r not cheap, i put my 2 jl 12/w3/v/2 in my girlfriends ford something suv, now the rearview mirror & bracket is not attched to the windshield any more , and it put a crack all the way across the windshield,. it hit 139 db.

Not bad numbers at all. How was the enclosure, and where was it positioned in the car? I hit 148 db with a single 12" driver in my Nissan, but it was in a slot ported enclosure and had a Crossfire 2000d powering it.

I should also mention that it sounded like utter crap. At least with the JL subs you have tonality and musicality along with your thump.

For the F150 my plan is for a single Boston G510 (dual 4 ohm) and the Boston GTR passive, tuneable radiator in a tight, down firing, sealed enclosure in place of my center jumpseat. Add about 500 watts RMS from a high-current amp (Arc Audio signature series is likely) and enjoy a nice sound quality system.

I've done more research and think I'm going to go with the Kenwood KSW-1 powered sub to compliment my Kenwood Double Din head unit and Pioneer 4-way speakers. That's about as technical as I get The Kenwood is a very small, compact sub, consisting of a 6" woofer; however, Crutchfield just did a test and said it blew away most of the competition. Can't wait to get it installed!!!

 

That sort of comes with being MECP certified (Mobile Electronics Certified Professional) for installs... yet I do nothing of that nature for a career. It is just an old hobby of mine.

The setup you described sounds as if it will be pretty similar to the factory installed Audiophile system, which is not a bad thing. If you have any questions related to car audio feel free to shoot me a PM (private message).

Basic Installation

I have a lot of under the table experience, and many, many hours of doing it for fun on my own cars.

I originally wanted to get into installing at a Circuit City or Best Buy for the volume work, and then take that experience to a shop that does custom work and learn from them. If all went well I was going to take that experience and open my own shop... that never happened. I took the test (which was a piece of cake), got certified and continued to just do it for hobby. Fiberglass is the only thing I haven't really mastered, everything else is easy.

 

well i have a descent setup it hits inside and a little bit on the outside, not to much....although i want to upgrade my 07' scabs to a custom center console box, i guess its cause im only 19........ well i have a box made for the back seats that only cost $45 and i bought 2 10" subs~~ pioneer premier shallow mounts, or as we say in houston~~pancakes, a 450w max mtx old school thunder 125..if i can remember correctly.. and i left the stock radio and ran the intrerface between the front driver door and rear door just because i didnt feel like running the wires through the front of the cab, and i didnt want to void any warrant, cause who will ever look at the wires between the doors.... the only tricky part was running the power cable and that was a easy task, hooked up the remote for the sub to the fuse box under the passengers dash

 

Let us know how it goes and what you think after having it for a week or so. I was looking at the same subs you mentioned in your first post and so far, it didn't seem like anyone on here had used any of them.
