I think his box is covered in carpet (no sexual innuendo there, I promise), so I doubt he can tell. But if it's a pre-fabbed box, it's most likely MDF.

i got it for like $75...but i honestly wont know until i rip the carpet off. but i dont plan on doing that.

This is a good article on MDF - and why you should probably choose it for box construction. LINK

A SEALED enclosure will be the smallest and is the simplest of enclosures to build. A sealed enclosure only needs to be the right size and well sealed. It will have good low frequency extension, but not the best. It's a good choice if space is limited.

A PORTED enclosure will generally have a better low frequency extension for a given response curve, but requires a larger enclosure. It will also be louder than a sealed enclosure. Ported enclosures are slightly more difficult to design than sealed enclosres. Box size, port shape and port dimensions all have to be taken into account and be 'spot on' or the sound could be off and, in some cases, could cause damage to the sub.

Not true. Depends what is being desired.
