Question Speakers

Can speakers with an impedance run off of a aftermarket HU without an amp?

also, when it says "size- 5x7/6x8" what is the true size of the speaker? can it fit in both openings?

An aftermarket HU will run many aftermarket speakers but be careful when when turning them up to loud. I ran my Memphis speakers off the HU for a while before I added an Alpine amp. The amp made a huge diff on loudness and clarity!

Your door will fit either 5X7 or 6X8's. The speaker sizes are different but the the bolt patterns are the same. A good place to check for fit is crutchfields. You can also fit round speakers with an adaptor plate.

Well it is a downfire box, i had it turned upside down to show the subs, but now they dont hit. I have somewhere between 1/2"-1" of space between the sub lip and the floor. and thats plenty enough room for the woofer to travel. I did have to buy 1" spacers/shams for both subs thought, because the box was to shallow. I will try to put up a video of how they sound.

Here is a good 4 page discussion on the issue.

well actually i bought speakers today. i just wanted something with a solid woofer and tweeter to replace the factory front door speakers. i didnt want something too powerful and expensive, so i bought a pair of Polk db570 from crutchfield. i didnt want to chance the 2 ohms thing.

Thanks for the help though. It nice to know that somebody out there doesnt just say, "Go do a search for it." that seems to be alot of peoples answers to everything.

Good choice of speakers. They sound great off of headunit power and even better if amped. You will thank yourself for not getting the infinity's...
