Got My Monster Subs today DB Drive PLT15WD

Finally got my three subs today. They were on a back order for ever. Now just waiting for the rest of the amplifiers. These subs are one of the top contenders when it comes to serious SPL competition. My 2yr old wanted to take a picture with it. He seen it and said "BOOM" lol

The PLT15WD DB Drive Platinum Series WD 15in weighs 68 lbs and can handle a burst of 10,000 watts for you bass burping DB Drag pounders. They are dual 2ohm voice coil subs. I have a total of six of these going into a wall I'm building in my 82 Camaro. Powering the subs I will be going with a total of 12 DB Drive Platinum PT2000.1 amplifiers. These amps produce 2000 watts each at 1 ohm but will allow you to strap them together to produce 4000 watts at a continuous 2 ohm load per voice coil getting my subs 8000 watts each.

Doors get two sets of DB Drive Platinum components with another set going into the kick panels as well. The dash factory location will get a DB Drive Speed Series 4x6 coaxial. These speakers will all run off a pair of DB Platinum PT475A 4 channel amplifiers rated at 75x4. With all that pounding I still aim to compete in SQ contest as well.Amps will be laid in three rows on top of each other in two layers staggerd so to be able to reach the adjustments. I'm welding an amp rack out of square stock to mount these beasts to. Each PT2000 amp weighs 28 lbs and is 25 inches in length. The storage well in the back of the Camaro will make home for 4 Kinetic HC2400 batteries to power the system. Up front on the engine I've already had a Streetwires 265 amp alternator on the car for years for the previous system.

I haven't decided on a source unit. Most likely a Kenwood Excellon piece. Depends on what they GIVE me...lol I'm thinking I'll just put my DDX8019 into the dash that I have in the Excursion. Getting ready to replace it with the newer one in March when it's available.

UPS guy hates when I order these. He always sticks around for me to show him what's in the heavy *** box...lol Just cool to see his eyes drop when I pull out a large amp or sub. I think he's starting to get bit by the bug.

Last year I did a customer's 2004 Yukon XL that I put four of these subs into a wall behind the 2nd row seats. We went with four of the 2000 watt amps for each sub. That was 16 big *** amps to stuff in the truck with a total of 8 batteries. Say goodby to hauling the groceries. That truck is hitting in the 170db range last time I heard from him. We had a local shop fabricate a braket that runs triple 200 amp Ohio Generator alternators on the front of the engine.

I'm don't think I'm going to have any problems reaching those numbers given the small size of the interior of the Camaro after the wall is in there. Ofcourse lots of sound dampening, fiberglass and such will be involved.

Well today I had some people look at the house and it looks like some much needed foundation repair may take some of the money to get the car project rolling. Just depends how sales go if it will keep me from the car. The house is 108 years old and the old stone is got some issues along with some other old house things like window sills, and siding repair.

It will be nice to get the car back to where I had it. Seven years ago thieves RAPED it in my driveway. Back then I had all gold 17x9 Dayton wire wheels on it with the door handles, exhaust, and blower intake gold plated as well. I woke up to find my car laying in the gravel on it's Brembo brakes and rotors. They pried the blower breather off the engine, ripped my door handles off, and the wheels of course. They took a crow bar to my fiberglassed door panels and dash and stole everything out of it. I had a 10" touch screen molded into the dash with a Xenarc mobile computer system. My dash molded around and formed with the new door panels with three 6.5 Diamond Audio components in the doors. The A pillars had a set of 4" components and the kick panels had a 6.5 mid driver. I had six Diamond Audio 12's in the rear in a slot ported wall. Subs were powered by six MMATS 1000.00 watt D classes and the components got power from four MMATS 4x160 watt SQ amps. The simply smashed, ripped and grabbed everything out of it. Total loss was about $15,000. Not bad for a nights theft.

This was all done while I was sleeping. My Streetwires alternator's external power regulator shot craps and cooked my battery. I had the car towed to the house and it sat outside for two days waiting for the new alternator and regulator to show up. My garage requires me to put two ramps up to the foundation for it at the time so I was unable to drive the car into it. In those two days of sitting outside they nailed me. No alarm.

Ever since then I think I've driven the car maybe once a year. Simply lost my heart for the car. I got a salvaged dash from a junk yard along with door panels. My intentions were to just sell the car and start with something new but I just got lazy with it. Now I figure why not go ahead and start over. Last year I purchased a lambo door kit for it that has just been sitting and also a set of the Racaro seats that came in the 85 GTA Trans-Ams. Thinking about doing some body work to it and vinyl wrapping it for the business.

They would have to dig a REALLY deep hole to find those guys if I would have caught them stealin my stuff.

Stealing it is one thing...completely ruining all that hard work in the fiberglass is another matter entirely. Yup, it wouldnt be pretty for me to catch 'em.

Insurance took care of me but it just doesn't heal the pain. You really feel uncomfortable that someone can enter your "zone" and do something like that. I can't even put myself into the thinking of those people to even begin to understand their thought process that makes them feel good or "OK" to take like that. On top of that to just senselessly or selflessly destroy property that one works soooo hard to create or obtain. A lot of money, sweat, and tears went into that car. I got the guy that had my wheels on his 99 Town Car. Lets just say he's minus one car....lol That's all I'll say.

I purchased this Camaro from a customer 10 years ago when I was a Roadshop Manager for Circuit City. Tragedy with custom cars follows me. If you feel like reading a story I'll post it for you.

I used to own Kicker, Sony Mobile ES, Streetwires, Momo and Lona & Sons Hydrolics sponsored 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage Coupe LS. Back in that day I was ahead of the time with these little "Fast & Furious" kids. My Mirage got it's warranty voided 6 months after I purchased it by pulling the original engine and placing a salvaged 95 Eclipse engine with a custom twin turbo setup in it. On top of that we shot some nitrous through it and followed the engine up with a nice short throw shifter. Back in that day a nice set of 17" wheels did the job so we went with some standard offset knock off all gold Daytons, custom made gold plated rocker panels, door handles, and fender trim. I've always loved my gold. Stuffed into that little car was four Kicker Comp 18's built into a 6 cuft isobaric enclosure. Two of the 18's were hidden in the enclosure but the other two baskets that you could see were gold plated by Kicker themselves. On the front of the fiberglass enclosure was a smaller one that housed three of the first Kicker XPL subs built for SPL competition. The doors had three sets of Kicker Resolution 6.5 components along with some 8" Solobaric drivers stuffed into the reconstructed kick panels. Power came from five Kicker 500ss amplifiers and highs got their power from three Kicker 360ss four channels. Back in the day these amps where the sh*t. There's so many companies out there now that kicker kind of gets lost in the names. All four corners of the suspension got treated to custom fabricated hydrolic struts to raise and lower the car tucking the wheels into the fenders. Back in that day airbag suspensions weren't around like they are now for custom cars. All that was protected with a Voiceshield alarm system that would talk to you like "Hey, I know you like my ride but please step aside!" I say these old names cause I know some of you guys have been around the car audio for as long as I have and it's cool to remember the first audio brands and models.

My Mitz Mirage car was finally where I wanted it. I even had a custom gold banner across the windshield that read "EARGASM" I had been in two World of Wheels shows, quite a few Lowerider Circuit shows, Car Craft shows and the list went on. Back in 97 I was a head of security at a poplular club in my hometown. I would park my car across the street on the corner in the grass directly in view of the club. I shouldn't be able to park there but all the local police knew me and never had any issues about it. I would drop the suspension to "lay frame" on the ground. Well after clearing the club out one night I come to the front door to see an empty space and the ground all chewed up where my car was. I ask some of the police that were there pushing the slow drunks off the streets and they said "yeah a tow truck took it." They guy pulled up with a roll-back truck, waived at a couple cops in front of the club and said "I was told to move this car." They guy was so professional about it they didn't think twice about it or to even pay attention to the truck company. I never seen that car again. That was my first time that I learned to PAY FOR SHOW CAR INSURANCE!!! I really lost out on that one. At least State Farm paid for the car itself but none of the custom equipment.

As you can see it just hurts all the more to loose another project once again. It has pretty much scared me to attempt it again.

Slaptastic!
