Go to as many stereo shops you can find and listen to everything that fits your budget. This accomplishes two things: 1) You get first hand experience with whats out there, 2) You get to know the guys that might be installing it. Do your research on the shop itself as much as the equipment. Ask for a portfolio of their work. Any shop worth its salt has got a binder slam full of pics of installs they've done.

But in the end, its all about what you like and can afford.
Hey. I like Polk too...

but x2!

Id say either Alpine Type-S 5x7 or Polk dB571 front and rear, Kicker Comp 10" in Vented box and a Kicker 300.1

Thats real good system and fairly cheap. 500-600 then add in the installs... ballpark 650-750.

I put my Alpine CDA9856 head unit and 4 new Pioneer 5x7/6x8s in my '07 Supercab FX2 and it is a drastic improvement over the stock stuff for little money, I already had the head unit I bought last year for my previous vehicle. Besides wanting to add a few peices of Dynamat behind them on the door metal I'm happy. I can live without the sub and amps.

Now, that's out of the way so how about lending some of your genius expertise in regards to sound systems.
