Possible? Yes. Decent? No.

You're looking at around at least $700-$800 for what you have listed for decent stuff.

What are you wanting, sound-wise? What music do you listen to? What truck do you have? All these questions need to be anwered before you can know exactly what you're gonna want.

Ok, truck is an 04 Supercrew. Im looking for some good clean sound with a lil thump in it. I list to alternative and some hip-hop type music. Is it possible to get a good sound keeping the stock head unit/thus saving a lil more money?

the only catch with keeping the HU is that u cant run an amp off of it, therefore no subs, (unless u have audiophile).

since u only want a nice crisp sound, you should just swap out the speakers first, and see if it suits you. start with the basic, and a new set of speakers will amaze you, unless u really cheap out on them.

Not true. I have kept the factory hu, added a line out converter ($20) to convert speaker level to rca output, 4 kicker 2 way 6x8 door speakers ($150 all 4) a Supercrewsound box under the seat ($99) and a 600 watt amp (Jensen $85) running the door speakers and the kicker 10" sub ($65) add a wiring kit ($25) and you have your <$500 system. I installed it myself, so there was no installation expense. The amp I got is not that great, I plan on replacing it soon, but for what I spent, it is pretty loud with decent SQ, and I didn't break the bank.

Or he could have a 4-channel with the front two outputs running the mids/highs, and the rear channels bridged on one sub.

For $500 the only option you have to get something worth installing when it is all said and done (And ready for future upgrades without WASTING money) is to start with a line converter, a decent 4 channel amp, and some new speakers. For $500 this is the BEST plan of action for the best over all sound quality and upgrade-ability.

I did this in one of my EX's trucks and we were all very pleased with it. Speakers can be had for around $150, an amp $200, and then misc/wiring etc will cover the rest.

Of course it all comes down to what you consider decent too. My version of decent FAR differes from a friend of mine who is a superfreak audiophile type of guy. He used to scoff at my systems, but in the end, I had money left over for my bikes. All depends on your priorities and what kind of quality your looking for in the end.
